Between my family and my wife's family theres 8 cars I do oil changes on.

I'm not crazy about doing oil changes, but I take satisfaction knowing the job was done correctly and no problems down the road.

I.... I.... I'm just speechless. Tired of changing oil.... I need a drink.

I really enjoyed changing the oil in my vehicles and the family's for the last 40 years. But alas my body does not let me do much any more

. It's a b**ch to get old :(.

This site is peppered with horror stories of quick change joints doing simple oil changes that have gone bad. Doing it yourself is the way to go if you respect your vehicle.

Maybe not oil changes, but I will pay someone else to change rusty ball joints and/or other **it work I don't want to do.

Anyone want to make some money crawling under my house for me?

Agreed. I don't get a particular thrill out of doing this stuff, oil, coolant, spark plugs, hoses and stuff, I do what I do to save a buck (or a bunch) and see that it's done right. I don't attempt timing belts, and on a car where the alternator or other stuff is too difficult to get to, I let a good shop do it.

This new car is so difficult to change the filter on, a splash guard with 8 bolts has to be removed, I'm going long drains, but still doing it myself. This OCI of M1EP is going 12.5K, and when I get it back from the dealer after the 15K dealer-check for warranty, I'm going Amsoil Synthetic and Amsoil filter for a 15K OCI. Only thing I'm doing in support of that is to install Fumoto to grab a UOA sample at 10K to ensure everything is in order. That and a quart of top-off Amsoil. This car "burns" a 1/4 quart about every 7500 miles, so far.

No sweat.

I appreciate the Zen of laying under the car while it's draining and looking around under there.

I am getting older and fatter and the ground is a lot harder than when I was 20.

Yep, I have to get up under there and reach between the block, the frame and the exhaust pipe to get to my filter. I've been burned and scalded so many times I don't even feel it anymore. Still, I look forward to it every time.

The wife's car, OTOH, is a dream. Pop the hood and right there staring you in the face is the oil filter. I can drive the passenger front wheel up on a 2x4 and that alone gets me where I need to be to reach the plug. Very fast and no hassle. I prefer the my own car.

I enjoy changing my oil... I get something out of it... Can't really describe the feeling. I have been doing it for about 13 years now. I do the folks cars too!

which one of you guys is in the speed channel commercials? my son just got a caddy cts, easiest oil change i have ever seen

Don't want medication... Just Oil... More Oil... And I wouldn't know about the speed channel commercials 'cos we have a Canadian version of the speed channel with our own Canadian Commercials inserted

Anyone else where I'm at yet?

I'd get more enjoyment bashing my hand with a hammer versus letting JL touch any of my vehicles.

My dad was a mechanic for over 30 years and he has a ton of horror stories of customers coming to his shop for engine replacements after quick-lube places screwed up their vehicles... That's why when I got my license he taught me how to do it the same day!

Been changing my own oil for 40 years now; I'm 60 years old. Do it winter , spring, summer, fall, whatever is required. Learned in college and grad school when money was TIGHT. Figure I've saved tons of money, paid for all my tools MANY times over and always know it is done correctly! Like anything else, it has to become a habit.

I've been watching the miles roll up on the Explorer, and even though it has been cold all week, I am pumped that I get to change the oil this weekend! I have only taken my car to a quick change one time and that is because I rounded off the drain plug when I was 17 and didn't have the tools or intelligence to get it out. 18 years later I still love getting under the car where no one can find me. I even beg my mom not to take hers to the quicky change but she usually does, its hard to convince her that I really do want to change her oil. Maybe it's genetic, my grandpa (on moms side) was still changing his oil at 89 years old. My dad on the other hand couldn't find the oil filter on his car if you gave him 30 minutes.
