My car was recently in a small accienden.. the intake was destoryyed... right now all that is left is the intake box with the filiter...... so basically its just the hole that usually goes into the pipes and goes all the way down to the wheel well is all gone now.. can i drive it like this or is it bad

Basically we drove cars set up like that all the time in the old days by design. I would think there is enough air under the hood to feed it and the filter box should be tight enough to keep it clean. Sounds like a performance mod to me.

yea.. i mean all th extra pipes and boxes that i took out were basically there for whatever reason.. it feels to have more aroun 3 to 4 grand

Those other pipes were for drawing in cool air from outside, basically a factory cold-air intake. Without them, you're drawing in hot air from inside the engine compartment. It certainly won't harm anything, but don't kid yourself thinking you increased performance.

yea the headlights are fine it low by the fog light.. im looking at a boomz intake on ebay for 100 bucks shipped

I like underhood air in the winter -slightly warmer, esp. when sitting or moving slowly.
But once you are moving, it purges itself pretty quickly.
Fix it in the Spring.

what do you mean purges? Your right though I am either going to buy a cheap cold air intake or am just going to connect the stock pipping back just without the box in the spring

I forgot to put he winky face on there. I was kidding about the performance mod part.

whats purges? also i was thinking of putting some of the stock tubbing and routing it down towards the ground a lil bit so when it gets warmer it wont get direct heat from the motor... also i found a intake made by bomz for 75 bucks but its a cold air and ireally dont want to risk water being sucked up..
any ideas

Purges? If you have an intake that is drawing it's air from under the hood, it will be drawing in air at outside ambient temps when you are moving starting at 20 MPH or so. This is because of the rapid air movement in and around the engine compartment.

A true cold air system gets air from outside the engine compartment in all conditions. It's a great idea, but don't be in a hurry until spring.

donny - It seems your car had a factory cold air intake [as do many nowadays].
Good duct tape may fix the piping just fine - especially if it is hidden from view!

i guess its kinda a cold air intake but its way to restricted... I am going to get a good cold air intake when i get my taxs back... i like the sound of an intake and the car could use more performance

Yes, they are often too small. And they often have 'tumors' on the side or in line for noise reduction. These hurt flow.
Before you spend big $, consider a trip to Home Depot and make your own. PCV pipe, pieces of stepped exhaust pipe, etc., are avenues you can pursue.
Cold air intakes are not good HP producers for the money.
Use common sense and try improving your own.
