I have 2003 Ford Taurus 65,500 miles and I changed to oil today, I put Auto RX in also. I wondering if I should Auto RX it once? I change the oil every 3000 miles or 6 months which ever comes first in the past. I do alot of slow driving since I live on a Air Force Base. After the 3000 mile flush I'm going with Amsoil oil for the once a year oil change. Grammer police please have mercy on me, I've been reading BITOG for awhile now, just never posted.

P.S After reading BITOG I realized I change my oil to much.

The way I understand AutoRX is 1500 Dino AND RX, 3000 Miles with just DINO and then another 1500 with RX if I want to Flush again or just go back to normal oil changing.

I hope that made since

Thanks for that info, I drove 140 miles today and I noticed the engine doesn't studder between 55 to 60 like it was. Or maybe it's all in my mind. I dunno

I was just looking on the ARX site and under the section for "Heavy oil burning applications", they reccomend ARX for 2500 miles and then a 3000 mile flush with dino.

My question is this, I put maybe 5K on my car a year, so to get through the 2500 miles of the cleaning cycle is gonna take me 6 months, is that too long for the ARX to be in there or is it solely based on mileage?

Also I just did an oil change 100 miles ago with basic NAPA 10w30 dino and a Wix filter, can I just dump the ARX in or do I have to do another change again and substitute some oil for ARX?

I was told by Frank that it wouldnt matter how long the clean phase oil was in he motor as long as you kept it around 2500 miles of use.

I asked him because I am doing a 1k mile cleaning on my motorcycle, but in the NW I wont be able to get 1k miles on the bike before winter hits and I have to store the bike away. By the time I get the 1000 miles done it will be August of 09 and then the rinse phase wont be completed until summer of 2010. My bike is a 2003 but only has 7k miles on it, so I dont ride it much. The reason for the A-RX is because it smokes some and burns a little oil.

As for my 2 cars, they both are doing 2500 mile cleaning phases with Pennzoil Platinum 10w30. rinse phase will be 3000 miles on PP 5w30, then back to Amsoil ASL for extended OCI's

Seems logical enough, I'll be ordering it in the morning then. The truck burns a [censored] load of oil, so I will probably be adding fresh oil throughout the cleaning phase anyway, at least until the ARX hopefully helps it to stop burning it.

I wonder if I should add some ARX throughout the cleaning phase as I add oil? I'm going through like a quart of oil every 150 miles, so it's a lot, probably burn ARX away too, maybe I'll dump an extra ounce in throughout the cleaning phase.

Thanks.

There are a few of us (myself included) who use maintenance doses of ARX, which means that it's been in the engine for 6 months, a year, some people more than a year continuously. Nothing except good news reported.

The way I understand ARX is that it's perfectly fine to leave in for very long time periods. If nothing else, that will allow it to work on very stubborn deposits.

Chero, that is truly a lot of oil to go through in 150 miles. Is there a faulty seal somewhere that it's leaking out of? I mean, besides the rings being all coked.

I'm no expert but IMO if a car is burning that kind of oil and you're doing an A-Rx treatment hoping to reduce consumption, I would add 2 oz A-Rx with each qt of make up oil. With that kind of consumption the A-Rx will be changed out in under 1,000 miles and probably not have enough time to do its job.

Again my opinons,
Frank D

sciphi......No leaks at all, not even a rear main seal leak, underneath is dry as can be, not a drop on the driveway. What's even crazier is that there is no smoke out of the tailpipe, small puff of smoke on startup but that's it. I figured going through that much oil I would have a cloud behind me. No oil in the PCV system either, no oil in the coolant, head gaskets done 10K ago and new heads put on.

dermapaint......Good idea, I agree, I will dump an extra 2oz in for every quart I replace, which hopefully will slow down as I use the ARX, but I know it might take a while after into the rinse phase before I see it stopping...and probably a second clean phase.

Looks like I'm buying 3 bottles of ARX today. HAHA it's gonna take me 2 years to complete 2 cleaning and rinse cycles.

Thanks for the info.
