I just noticed from Valvoline, they have new PDF spec sheets available and it looks like they have some changes. I noticed their Maxlife and Maxlife synthetic pdf's have been updated, 2-09 and 1-09, and both have 8.3 TBN now, before I believe it was 8.0 and some other 'new specs' The normal Maxlife looks very close in spec to the Full synthetic Maxlife!

I also saw the email from the NAPA/VAL email sent, in which they gave a nice, honest reply. Good to see Valvoline!

The Synpower oils also have a new PDS, and the cold-weather numbers have improved a LOT. Valvoline is making some top-notch stuff these days.

Unfortunately, one of the changes made to ALL the oils is they almost ALL now use about 490ppm of Na in their add-pack.

What's wrong with that?

It isn't that difficult to tell if the oil has been contaminated with antifreeze.

To me the NOACK, wt. % loss numbers are what really caught my eye.

I have the old PDS, NOACK for 0W-20, 5W-20, 5w30 were between 13 and 13.5. But the new 4x formula is closer to 10. This makes me curious enough to try it.

Both Synpower and their conventional oils are excellent. I think they have improved a lot as well.

I wasn't aware that Synpower was using Na.
