New RAV4 - When to do a UOA?

3 family members (wife, daughter and MIL) decided to buy Rav4s over the last 8 months. (2013, 2014 and 2015). All were purchased new. I changed out the factory oil in the 2013 at 5k and replaced it with AFE 0w20. I plan to do the same for the 2014 and 2015. When should I have the UOA performed? 7,500? Or should I wait until the 3rd oil change so that more break-in material is removed in the 2nd change. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I agree with KrisZ; unless you're looking for something in particular on an analysis, I don't think there's a right or a wrong time to do one. I certainly don't consider them "required reading" for a new engine.

If you're asking when break-in material is sufficiently out of the engine so that it doesn't skew your numbers, I'd say you'd be safe after at least 20,000 miles.

My intention was to see if I can run AFE 0w20 for an OCI of 10k safely or if I need to switch to M1 EP.

Then wait at least until your second run with AFE, and then take it up to 10K miles, and then test.

Does Toyota allow 10K oci on this car?

Then get TBN. Better yet, go with Polaris and get TBN & oxidation/nitration.

Also most people who extend OCI do it gradually with multiple UOAs. Like a UOA at 7500, if good, then keep going and a UOA at 10,000. Rather than go the full distance and then see if the oil is still in good shape.

Yes, unless driving conditions fall into the severe category.

So what would a safe OCI be for AFE until these vehicle reach 20k?

So, buy a Toyota and then follow Honda's OCI? I like it.

My daughter has a 2012 Rav4 and only has about 15k miles on it. jRuns like it is new, which I expect at that mileage. On new Toyotas you get a maint plan for 2 year/25k miles. They now have a 10k OCI and use synthetic oil ie Toyota 0w20 which is very good oil and recommend change oil and filter every 10k miles.
If you need to change it early due to severe usage, then change it how you see fit. There is no need for a UOA unless you are trying to really extend your mileage intervals. Save the money and buy the quality Mobil 1 products and change them as you need to. Go to Walmart and you can get the oil for about 25 bucks.
You really do not need to do the UOA unless you want to extend the oil usage to its limits. You will not learn much about 3 new engines with the money you spend.

I parked next to a new one the other day. It's as big as the first 4 Runners. I susoect a smaller SUV will be along shortly to fil the gap. The new 4 Runner looks like it's built on the Tundra.

I wasn't sure if the 0w20 AFE could handle 10k or if I should go with EP to be sure I was ok. So I was hoping the UOA would confirm it could and then factoring in 3 different drivers and driving conditions. If I don't go with a UOA then would it be beneficial to do the first OCI at 5k, 2nd at 7.5k before going to 10k? My thinking is to remove break-in materials.

After 10K I would go to 10K OCIs with M1 0-20. M1 0-20 can handle 10K OCIs easily in most engines calling for a 0-20.
