Well, I was at Pepboys this evening, intending to check out the new RP oil filters. I did that, and then encountered this apparently new M1 product, which seems to be aimed at preserving emissions system performance. I bought a bottle, and took some pics. Here it is:

I had not even heard a peep about this product, until I saw it on the shelves. Hope I'm not just totally missing the bus. . .

Anyway, I'll take a wild guess, and speculate that given the name, it's not exactly loaded up with ZDDP. Beyond that, I don't know. Comments?

EDIT: Oh by the way, I checked the Mobil website, and I don't see any mention of this product at all. It was also there in 10w-30 flavor too.

I think it was mentioned in a post somewhere on this board. Doesn't look like a product I'd be interested in, but it appears Mobil thinks it will sell. We shall see.

Does it mean other Mobil 1 products are harmful to the emission system? That's my first thought. Too many products make for confusion, this leads me to believe their other oils don't protect my emission system. Another product destined to be discontinued? JMO

Of course, being an admin here, I had to do a search first, which, of course, revealed nothing. For everyone's info, we're upgrading the software soon, and one of the features that's supposed to be improved is the search. . .

That's a good question, and a serious part of the mystery. I am indeed located in Florida, and the vast majority of oil sold here is, of course, in QUART bottles.

EDIT: Also note that this flavor of Mobil-1 is not in the bottles we see normally used for M1. That looks like a Mobil Clean bottle, does it not?

Search yahoo for Mobil 1 ESP, it's the first link..

It's also on the UK Mobil 1 site..

The ESP line has been out for a while. At least the spec sheet for the 5w-40. I know I listed it among all the 5w-40's (most Delvac).

Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40
Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40 is a fully synthetic supreme performance heavy duty diesel engine oil that helps extend engine life while providing long drain capability and potential fuel economy for modern diesel engines operating in severe applications

Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40 - Emission System Protection
Mobil 1 ESP Formula M 5W-40 is an advanced performance synthetic engine oil designed to provide exceptional cleaning power, wear protection and overall performance

Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5w30

This is an oil for modern diesels. Looks like VERY advanced chemistry IMO, given the specs to which it's certified despite having low enough additive levels to have 0.63% sulphated ash.

Word is that Mercedes, BMW, et al. don't want it used in gas engines here because the ethanol in the fuel attracts water, which increases acid formation.

You probably wouldn't have a need for this oil.

The new BMW diesel owners will buy it...

dunno how you missed it lol, dealers have had this oil for a wile now just hitting the stores here.

they have 5w40ESP too did you see that one there?

It does appear to be a European product. Of course, it's in a litre bottle, but check out the back label. Have not seen this before.

A couple interesting details. First, it's ACEA A3 approved, something you don't see very often in 5w30 products. The only other 30 wt A3 oil I've ever had in my possession is GC.

The other thing is the languages. That fold out label seems to cover just about every language you can think of. It's even got a section in Greek.

I still don't see it at my M1 link. I wonder if I may be looking at a stale saved version of the M1 site.

Yes, I saw the 5w-40. I mis-spoke above, that's what I was talking about, not 10w-30...

I was in Walmart today, and saw something that had that "Green" label, but did not notice if it was this product or something else.

One thing I did notice was that they did NOT have any 0W-40 European Formula.

Another thing I did notice was that the prices of "most" M1 was back down to around $6.29. (some of the EP was around $6.79). This is back to where it was before the prices shot up last year.
