Yea, it's really too bad that the younger generations don't have a clue.

So yeah, you'd be an idiot not to give it a look if you're in the market. Plus, now made in the USA.
go drive a 2010 Rio and call me an idiot again. If that's not the worst new car in the market, and worse than almost any car you have ever driven, then I suspect that your insult is misdirected.

Well, Pearl Harbor speaks for itself as to why old timers don't like Japanese products, and I know the Korean war was under the UN, but there are still old timers that disagree with our involvement.

Maybe. Too bad this post wasn't about the Rio.

Really, this thread is filled with people who have never test driven a Hyundai/Kia in the last few years bashing the brand, and people who have who didn't buy but seemed to think the new Sorrento warranted one.

Basically, people who have no clue but feel the need to speak, and those who do. Oh, their cheapest car wasn't that great? I'd like to talk to someone who had a rental Aveo and ran out to buy a Tahoe the next day!

"After the Korean war"

Ummm... I think we were on South Korea's side during that war. They were our allies, and still are during our current Iraq campaign. You don't have to like Hyundai, but have your facts straight.

I drove a rio 5 ( and owned one for a couple days), much better handling dynamics than the competition and excellent by any criterion. Top automotive press put it right behind the Honda Fit in an comparo. Nice interior fit and finish, driving position. The engine power was a tad lackluster as was the shift linkage. the spectra on the other hand drove plain vanilla rubbery poor. I settled on the Yaris, though handling was mediocre, the sprightly engine and Toyota resale and price won me.

I have my facts straight. Not everyone has to like our allies or agree on our involvement in that war or any war for that matter. I have spoken to plenty of older folks that were against it and wouldn't drive any Korean or Japanese car. I dont have anything against Hyundai I actually like the new Sorrento.

Once we die off, there will be no one left to support our industries and the country will die off as well. It's happening now. Look at the trade deficit.

I shouldn't have used the term "die off" it comes across as crass. This country is in a bind and something needs to change thats for sure.

If the American car companies built everything right by the year 1987, no foreign cars would have gone mainstream.

Somehow foreign auto companies have done well by building in US-based factories.

What do they feel about German cars or middle eastern oil? Fawlty Towers had a great episode on this type of xenophobia.

I'll tackle the German difference. Germany has an open market that allows the domestics to compete with their competitors on a much more level playing field. It means something to me that Ford has been in Europe almost since the beginning selling their cars. They had plants in England, Germany and other EU countries even before 1930.

You can't say the same thing for the far Eastern competitors. Their governments acted in their manufacturers best interset and blocked Ford from doing business on a fair playing field. My biggest complaint against the eastern manufacturers has always been their "protected" status in their home markets, while enjoying a fair and open market here in the States.

Plus you have the simple fact that the Germans build a good car, at the time the Japanese were invading our market, they were building junk! A 1973 CVCC is a far cry from an Accord when it comes to quality and safety.
