I did not notice until I got home that evening. Perhaps I look into it the next time I get over there. Thanks for the info!

This happened to me 2 days ago, I told the clerk, and took him to see the tag on the shelf. I had already paid, so I was told to go to the front of the store and see customer svc. They said no problem and refunded me the difference.

the only reason i liked havoline before- it was very cheap, and very good. now, at this price, it's still good, but there are better oils for the same price. They lost a customer. Although i still like their oil

I still like the old bottles better, but at $9.87 on sale for the 5 quart, who cares, it's what inside the bottle that matters.

Since this site has praised it and Chevron Supreme since who knows when, that's all I ever change in my Camry and Titan.

A curious thing at my Advanced tonight. They have the standard Havoline in the new bottle, but no High Mileage, Blend, or Syn. No pricing on the shelf it sits on either. The curious part was, when counter-guy scanned it to give me a price, it wasn't in his system, so he couldn't tell me what they charge for it.

Reserve all judgement until the opposing VOA's come out, old Havoline 5W20 vs. "New" Havoline 5W20 which is on the way shortly. These will tell us if Havoline tampered with the formula that was VOA'd a couple of years back before the "New" Havoline came out (I'm most curious about that part, truthfully), and also will tell us how the "New" Havoline measures up to the Havoline that just went disco.

I'm dying to see if they dropped the moly content or other AW agents or cheapened the base oil on the original Havoline since the last VOA. If so, then I'd say the industry is, as a whole, reducing quality rather than increasing price, given the worming and twisting XOM is performing under questioning.

It's a stratagy. We might not LIKE it, but it's their oil after all..

TooCrazy,

If the old HM, Syn and Syn Blend collected dust sitting on the shelf....

then for sure the *new* Havoline HM, Syn, Syn Blend that is more expensive won't sell. I did buy 27 quarts of the HM for 49 cents when they closed it out.

Oh, I'm not arguing that in the least, LT. I used to read you guys discussing the different types of Havoline three years ago, but we never had anything but standard Havoline in the run of the mill parts stores (AA, AZ, PEP) around here.

And so it seems to this day with the Deposit Control Havoline. No HM, no Blend, no Syn. Only the standard Havoline Deposit Control. Truthfully, AA here has a rather considerable space limitation. With all the other brands and varieties, they haven't room for the other three versions.

Like you, I believe they've developed such a fragmented brand with the differing formulations, it's too much to stock and display the four versions effectively, and frankly, with all the other choices, it's entirely too confusing to the average consumer, who will buy the cheap stuff anyway. Folks going to syn will go to the M1 or Castrol Syntec, or PP.
