I have been using the Jaguar/Land Rover approved, specially formulated Castrol Edge Professional EC5 0W-20 oil in my Jaguar F Type. It meets JLR's standard STJLR.03.5006 and has previously only been available through Jaguar/Land Rover dealerships.

I Just bought a quart from my dealer's parts department just to have on hand in case any top-off oil is even needed and what they gave me was Castrol Edge Professional LL IV FE 0W-20. It no longer carries the notation on the back label that it meets the STJLR.03.5006 (ACEA C5) standard, but , curiously it says it meets VW's 508 00 specification. And the data sheet dated May 2019 states:

Castrol EDGE Professional LL IV FE 0W-20 is suitable for use in automotive gasoline and diesel engines where the
manufacturer recommends an ACEA C5 0W-20 lubricant.
Castrol EDGE Professional LL IV FE 0W-20 is approved for use in vehicles that require a VW 508 00 / 509 00
specification 0W-20 lubricant.
Castrol EDGE Professional LL IV FE 0W-20 is approved for use in Porsche vehicles that require a Porsche C20
specification 0W-20 lubricant.

I compared these specifications from the EC5 data sheet and the new LL IV FE data sheet

I don't really know how to interpret the specs as most of the LL IV FE 0W-20 specs are in DIN ratings. Can someone tell me if one formula is better than the other or if the differences are so miniscule that it doesn't matter ?

I emailed Castrol and asked if the EC5 formula was discontinued. The LL IV FE formula has been around since May of 2019 so maybe it is good enough that JLR no longer feels the need to contract with Castrol for a special formula ? Waiting for a response.

I'll bet the bulk oil that the dealership uses for customer oil changes on their Jaguars and Land Rovers is the LL IV FE formula as well.

Understood that the LL IV FE formula is not new, has been around since around 2019. Maybe the EC formula is under shortage conditions or has been discontinued, and that is why the Jaguar/Land Rover dealership is stocking the LL IV FE ? I'll post a message if/when Castrol responds to my inquiry.

In the meantime,

curious on this as well, but i believe the castrol 0w20 EC is the spec oil, should be easy to get that tbh
