Never look down the barrel of a loaded shotgun!

I saw a bloke look down the barrel of a .22 on the range one day, and as range officer, I freaked.

That bloke is soooo lucky, and reminds me of a workmate who bought a muzzle loader, cleaned it up some, then got a mate to put a cap on it, point it at him and he would see if the flash hole was clear.

He reckons that at the point that he saw the flash, he also saw in his minds eye that the rifle could have still been loaded, and went all jelly kneed.

Believe it or not, I once saw someone do that.

It was not a hang fire. The one I saw was drinking coffee when he bumped the trigger on his own gun and blew a half circle in the brim of his hat. Dam fool left the safety off when he stopped duck hunting and came over to us for some coffee.

I can seeing that being real. The spread is t always that great, and he could have just suffered some burns. Stupid.

I actually stopped breathing and grabbed my face when I saw that video. I think my heart skipped.

Good lord. I don't even have words...

what would be the point of looking down the barrel? if theres no light at the other end you wont see a thing....lol

wow that really is crazy, the only time I look down my barrel is when its off the gun and im cleaning it.

I look through the barrel after I am done cleaning it, only way to tell if I've done a good job on the bore...but only with the weapon completely disassembled...and even then, I look "Up" the barrel...from the bolt/receiver end...I can't bring myself to look down it even when it's an isolated part...

As to the video?

Wow...that's all I can say, is "Wow"...

When I learned gun safety they said treat every gun as if it is loaded. I take it one step beyond that and treat every gun as if it is going off. I refuse to allow anyone to place a gun in a vehicle so that it can point to anyone in the vehicle, even if it is not loaded.

My B92 lever can't look up the back, so I use a torch with a 90 degree light pipe to iluminate the barrel, and when I can see the light, look back down.

Back in the 1996/7 Big Oz gun debate, our friend, the editor of a regional paper wanted to take some pictures "down the barrel" of my rifles for a photo op (she was legit, and royally miffed when Murdoch(s employees) took the pro part of her story out, and burned many of her contacts in gun sport, agriculture and law enforcement).

Couldn't and wouldn't do it full stop...the shotgunenrs get annoyed with me at the range when they are wandering around "broken" with muzzles going everywhere as they gesticulate while talking.

The buttstock is resting on the ground, so it just twitches slightly when the round fires.

ETA: Because of the low quality of the video, it's hard to see if there are any powder burns on the inside surface of the bill of the cap. However, I do now see that this doofus REALLY needs a belt.
