found these in the back lot at work yesterday while taking out the trash; figured I'd try out my new camera phone!

These are ancient old "speeders". The major RR's haven't used them in years with the advent of "Hi-rail" truck conversions that can ride on both pavement and rail.

Some guys buy these and ride them on abandoned rail lines. (with a nice surprise when they hit a paved-over crossing!)

There are organized rides on active track too. Usually a small railroad that has an occasional day when they don't use a stretch of track. The husband of one of my wife's friends is in a speeder club and they have take their's all over the US and even over the Sierra Madre past Copper Canyon in Mexico. They go from Chihuahua to the Pacific Coast over an 8000 foot high mountain pass.
