Neighbor bought a Ferrari

I have known collectors that purchase 360 Modenas just because they are coming up on their 10k mile service. At that time they are sold by many who simply cannot or will not pay the fees for the dealer to perform the work.

My fav story is about a famous (racing team owner) client of ours who bought one in a rare 6 speed iteration, had it serviced, and then broke his ankle. He will never drive a clutch again!

IME these are very nice cars if you are a person who drives them hard and have access to a road course...

Looking at that dash, my first thought, how foolish, it claims 360 degrees of rotation yet it doesn't rotate all the way around, you know, to 360 degrees. Looks like 290 degrees at best. I'd be much more impressed if 360 was back at 0...


That's roughly 165k miles; I have no idea what your talking about, rotation??

I think a speedometer that reads to 360km/h was confusing.
It would be interesting to know what the maintenance and services needed were for that car though. I imagine many never see 6 digits even in kilometres.
 
I have to say, I would have never thought a Ferrari could accumulate that many kms either. I always pictured them as high strung track cars or for weekend touring, never up in the commuter car use territory, I thought they would fly apart well before that point. I wonder how many others make it up there?

Sex on wheels.

One of the most beautiful cars ever, IMO. A dream car for me. Looks better than many before and after. But not the Spyder - completely ruins the lines.

I'm not sure you can even buy a new Ferrari with a manually operated clutch anymore. I believe they all come with dual clutch auto boxes. I certainly wouldn't describe them as "slushy."

Their are even a few Zonda's with well over 100k miles on them.

If driven normally they run like normal cars, most are either flogged and put away wet or never driven at all.


I knew someone who took an F430 on a dirt road hunting, they are not toy cars if you don't want them to be.

I believe the last F car that could be had with a stick was the 430 but I'm probably wrong.

Sticks are to slow for the modern ones and not integrated enough with the traction and drive systems. A lot happens when you shift say an F12, more than a gear change!



Can't use launch control like this with a stick.

I was being silly; obviously 264kkm is *not* 18kmiles.

Speedometer goes to 360km/hr. 360 degrees in a circle? 360 ticks to go around?

Nevermind, my humor is a flop...

If you're the DIY type is it reasonable to be able to accomplish that for less and without expensive specialized tools?

A lot of guys do it themselves, the older ones at least are not terrible. You drop the engine away from the body, ie you need a lift but other than that not to crazy.

My buddies uncle did his 328GTS himself and it looked like any other 80's car in terms of working on it. I think the parts cost is under $1k.

Typically F car T belts age rather than mileage out, off the top of my head I think they are supposed to be done every 5 years. Considering how expensive it would be to snap one, its not the kind of car you want to endurance test the belts on! Its not like an old Accord your not going to bend a valve and buy a $400 head to fix it...


I have neighbor up the street that has a 328GTB as well. Does his own work. Actually has a camper with his tools ready to go. A workshop on wheels with a bed for those mobile fixes.

I worked with a guy who would do Ferrari maintenance in his home for a lower price than the dealer. He said he never needed to use a Ferrari exclusive special tool, although he does have to use automotive tools to do the job.

He enjoys it. He says they are put together like racing cars.

The car of his I've liked the most was a bright blue E39 M5.



At least he'll save in maintenance costs.

What would "flogged and put away wet" imply in this situation? Just lack of proper maintenance? What else would you have to do?
