I keep hearing this......... But I haven't seen any ACTUAL PROOF that it's true?

Matters-not if the oil is conventional, semi-syn or full synthetic. Just want my 5W30 on the thick side.

I think QSUD is pretty thick for a 5w30. 11.6 @100c, 66.65@40c.

Does it allow 5w40?

You could also run Rotella T6 5w30. (Diesel and gas rated.)

I wish we had Castrol 5w30 A3/B4.

I ran QSUD 10w30, a past "fave" for summer use. but regardless of KV100, HTHS is more important spec if you're looking at "thick-er.
Better yet by far, the new Valvoline ADVANCED 5w30 synthetic is Impressive stuff all around and worked wonders on my difficult Nissan 2.5L with a basic SUB mechanical valvetrain. I would run that and bet you engine will like it. It was on sale at WM. Best oil i've used with Castrol Magnetec, QSUD used and considered previously. Buster would approve - killer ad pack and base oils:)

I heard some Hyundai dealers now include Quaker State and you-guys are showing it here to be on the thick-side. Being 5K/6 month OCIs is what the manual calls for, Quaker State might be the ticket.

Also considering low-saps, like Valvoline Modern Engine, Mobil-1 ESP....... etc. Is Pennzoil Platinum Euro L a low-saps? Pennzoil Inc has a $10 rebate offer. Just not sure if Walmart qualifies. Meijer does qualify. But I don't think they carry the Euro L.

I search every place I can and still have yet to personally see T6 Multi-vehicle (I know they gave away some free cases, but none to me

) I just dumped a 6.5k OCI of Castrol 5w30 A3/B4 from the Odyssey and replaced it with a jug of PUP 5W20. The Castrol ran very well, but I forgot to grab a sample for UOA. My bad.

Problem is, it's stupid expensive. I got mine for $36 with a free filter. I looked when I knew I was coming up on the OCI time, and price has jumped to $47/5Q. No thanks at that price, I'd waste my money on Ravenol first

Where were you able to find that Castrol 5w30? I'm assuming you're from Lafayette judging by your "location" quote.

I've seen a few people find the T6 5w30. NAPA has it on their site for $33 a gallon. Site says call for availability, but I just can't justify that.. Darn shame too because I could literally use it in everything I have.. Passenger car and tractor.

It was true a few years ago with higher sulfur fuels (except California) but that has been reduced to ultra low levels in the last couple years. Audi/VW has recently changed their oil spec on their gas cars to low/mid saps oils in response because in a low sulfur fuel environment they do protect better and longer than the older full saps specs.

My first thought was, "gee, what ever became of good old GC" (you remember -- German Castrol...). I still recall with regret pouring out the last bottle of mysterious emerald green liquid magic... That would have fit the bill! Even as a 0w-30.

Sorry, this post isn't much help... But it was fun.

What I was attempting to uncover in this thread is a low-sap, thick 5w30 oil. But I cannot find a single one. Both Valvoline Modern Engine and Castrol Magnatec 5w30s are real thin... approx 9.5 and 9.8 cst@100. Thick premium oils like Pennzoil Ultra Platinum are thicker and great at cleaning pistons. Quaker State Ultimate Durability also. But neither one is a carbon-fighter.

The hunt for an engine oil for my new Hyundai Santa Fe 2.4 engine continues......

Our Walmart in a first ring suburb of Minneapolis has 6 plus 5qt jugs of Rotella T6 Multi-Vehicle 5w30 on it's shelf for $28.47 all day long.

Going back to the OP desires (read the start again) … can T6 really get there … meh on NOACK etc …

You've already been given a great answer- Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5W30 is a C3 oil which is low-saps and an oil known to keep engines clean, and my VOA showed it's got a hot viscosity of over 12. Considering what you've asked, the great oils available, and the fact that all of these oils exceed the requirements of your engine, I'd say you're greatly overthinking this, with no apparent "wins" in sight.

Use an oil that meets the specs Hyundai calls for, and if the engine craps out under warranty they will fix it. If it doesn't crap out, sell it 1000 miles shy of warranty expiration and let it be somebody else's worry.

What carbon are you trying to fight?
