Hi all
I have a 2004 Hyundai accent 52K miles auto am running PP for now I know synthetic is overkill ,but was just too good of a price to pass up 20.50$ for 5QT.
Ran GTX last OCI , Car is driven highway 95% 5 city about 22 miles per day only (return).will be doing short OCIs as last run on dino did 2400 miles in 4 mos.need a good winter oil too or something I can run with MMO . 3.5 quarts total will run 1 pint of MMO with 3 Qts of OIL.

I am thinking of switching to Motorcraft 5w30 semi / Kendall, PYB, formula shell or QS synthetic (whatever they call it this month).
I also run MMO in fuel at the rate of 3 OZ per 10 gal.
Just not any BP products ...Ill sooner run olive oil and bleach thru my engine before using castrol again.

think cheap and cheaper. mc is fine especially in winter so is pp. very thin oils. cheap dino in summer at 3-4000 oci is fine too. skip the mmo in the oil. not necessary at your mileage. I would use lucas ucl in the fuel but only twice every oci for cleaning. just look for sales on oil at cad tire.

That is insane not to use BP oil products, sorry but that comment prompted a response. You are in Canada, no where near the gulf, I am in Daytona beach and dont hold BP responsible and as matter of fact filled my wifes car up with BP Ultimate using my BP card. Really, you people make me want to go beat turtles to death with a ballpean hammer. Castrol makes a good oil and so does Pennzoil, but to have that mentality is insane.

Sounds like just any oil will do for you, so pick any of the better known brands.

I just dont like BP products , there too secretive in regards to their MDS sheets and statistics , the pour point of GTX is not that great, Id rather give my money to a company that actually has stats on their oil available to the public and are not a "Boutique" oil mentality, More expensive is better. I'm sure there are much better products for less or equal money . I just wanted to know what a good oil is for my purposes.

Who is responsible then?

I think you best read the issues and the negligence they allowed first before you go and defend them.

If you want to go by who gives the best stats, it's Pennzoil or Quaker State. These are the only oils that have 40C, 100C, VI, HT/HS, NOACK, CCS, and MRV. Honorable mention to Amsoil and Valvoline for including all of the above except MRV

zking67,

Running PP is not overkill! If you use synthetic and run it fulll course according to the maintenance schedule your doing excellent in mkeeping your Accent running well.

For economy you can run any synthetic you want like your mentioned in your posting but PP is good.

Check out PetroCanada Supreme. Excellent specs. Pour point of -42C so it's good all year, even in Mtl. If you go to this site you can find the nearest PetroPass Cardlock /bulk plant and buy a case, usually for less than the gas station. I get it for $4.23 per litre. ( To our neighbours down south, this is a good price in Canada, Mobil 1 is like 10 bucks. )

Here are the specs

Canadian tire brand is re-badged Shell, also a fine oil, and comes on sale regularly. Pour Pt not as low as PC though.

Well, thats a fair enough reason, not to use them, I just thought you were jumping on the "punish BP bandwagon. I stand corrected. You might want to check out Valvoline, I dont know how they do it, but that oil looks so nice coming out of the bottle.

WHATEVER YOU DO AVOID ADDING MMO TO YOUR OIL, YOU WILL DESTROY THE CHEMISTRY. instead, simply add Pennzoil Marine XLF, or the Pennzoil Plus or pennzoil full synthetic 2 cycle oils to your fuel, via ratio increments. These oils were designed to burn with your fuel. Make sure it is ashless, thats why you would use MARINE 2 CYCLE OIL ONLY RATED AT TCW-3! No offense regarding the MMO, but it will alter and mess up your oil chemistry. You shouldn't add anything but the whatever specific oil that you are using, and buy an extra quart, in case a topping off is needed. All the best on your final selection! PP is an excellent oil, and PU is even more better. Quality full and or semi- synthetic Marine TCW-3 2 cycle oil is a lot better than MMO in your fuel, in my opinion. Also purolator pureone oil filters are the best for the money and filtration!

I think if you do a search you will find MMO, not just on this website, it has a very good following with very good results. I, myself personally have used it in the oil and in the fuel, before I did, I talked to many engine builders, in person. Its Great stuff. I would no way put two stroke oil in a modern engine with all the emmision control equipment. I have tore down many two strokes, as clean as all the manufactures like to make you think their oil burns clean. They dont. MMO will mess with your chemistry no more than mixing Valvoline with Pennzoil with Castrol, all the oils are compatiable and you are simply topping off with MMO. I have yet to find anyone in person or on the net that has tried MMO and had damage or bad results. The only people I hear bash, do so from a hypothetical view. I use it regularly in both my car and truck.
