Hi All,

Is there any big difference between MaxLife Full Syn and Mobil 1 HM 10w30's? I plan to change the oil in both cars to one of these oils and wanted to get some opinion before purchasing. Thank you.

If you can find the Maxlife full syn I would highly recommend it. Used it in 5w30 in a Ford Duratech, Honda I-4, and even put some in my BMW cycle. It completely stopped the leaks from my pushrod tube seals on the Beemer. I now use 20w-50 Maxlife blend in the Beemer. Also no weird noises or unusual oil use in any of the above vehicles.

The main difference is that Mobil 1 is SL rated and has GF-3 phosphorous levels. So in essence, it has 200 ppm more zinc and phosphorous. I don't know how much that will affect your vehicles; if they have non roller valvetrains, it may in theory provide a bit better wear protection. Mobil 1 also has a higher TBN.

Thank you both for the input. I have definitely heard more things about MaxLife then the Mobil 1 but that may be because it has been around a little longer. I guess I really cannot go wrong either way.

Spec wise Mobil HM is better but honestly they both will do an excellent job. If Mobil is cheaper and then definitely get it.

If one is significantly cheaper then go with that. If they are about the same in cost or if cost is no issue, I say go Valvoline MaxLife Full Synthetic

Thank you all again! I was able to find MaxLife 5w30 at WalMart cheaper than Mobil 1 so I went with that. As you stated, they are both acceptable choices.
