I have about 300' of 6' wooden privacy fence to paint, plus a fair amount of old aluminum siding that is now starting to need some work. Possibly some interior work as well. Thinking about buying a decent paint sprayer.I like Behr paint, seems to get good reviews, so that's what I'll probably use. Thoughts and comments? What and where to buy? Thanks.

how cheap do you want to be.
I bought the 19$ electric harbor freight paint sprayer and put about 10gallons through it now.. staining and painting. Works fine.

Also works good with my portable 800w generator for outbuildings.

I actually paid 16$ with a coupon but its a good deal at 19$ too

it holds 1 quart and its MUCH better than pump sprayers or brushing.

I mainly did acrylic stain with mine.. alot of the bad reviews are using latex paint and people not reading instructions....

Rent a good Airless sprayer (Titan or Hero) that feeds from the Can. The job will be done in less than two hours.
Last week I painted Six outbuildings, using 20 gallons of paint, total time spent was 7 hours.

Personally I have a Wagner power sprayer with a 2.5gallon hopper and it allowed me to re-prime the interior of my home within a few hours. Keep in mind thou, my house was a newly purchased foreclosure so I basically stripped out all the carpeting and etc... and then masked off all areas I didn't want to get paint on.

One issue I had was that the 2.5gal hopper is annoying to keep re-filling and etc... I would recommend that you buy the newer ones in which have a feed spout like the Titans do. This will save you a lot of time when it comes to clean-up since you can simply change your paint bucket for a soap/water bucket and spray into another catch bucket for disposal.

One issue with sprayers is that they do cause overspray if you are not careful and take the proper precautions. I was lucky and learned on an empty house but if you are just learning, be overly cautions to just be safe. You will also use more paint then if you were rolling but in the end, it is probably worth it for most.

SideNote: The HF cheap handheld sprayer was [censored] for me. It worked for 3 minutes and then started to sputter. I verified the paint was within the viscosity spec using their funnel test so I finished what I had to (popcorn ceiling repair) and returned the unit. I would invest in a quality sprayer if your demand supports it.

obiviously if you want to plunk down $$$ there is alot better stuff out there.

that being said besides the hassle of refilling the 32 oz hopper

It worked flawlessly for me. I didnt have a big budget to spend on one. I bought it to avoid brushing 15 year old T111 siding that has open grain/rough surface.. really hard to brush the paint into it.

It also worked great for the lattice around my deck and some other odd jobs.

IF I was doing a whole house or had $$$ I'd probably research but be prepared to spend well over 100$ to get anything better.

No but he said he was going to use Behr paint and asked if there were any comments, right?

Behr does get good reviews from Consumer Reports.

Extremely expensive paint! It does get great results though, but still. $50-$60 and up for a gallon?? In fact I got some ultra high gloss oil-based trim paint from Benjamin Moore and it cost $26 for a quart, and it didn't work out any better than the stuff I later got at HomeDepot for $11 a quart.

In summary, I think Behr is sufficient for most normal folks. I'm happy with it. It does sag a bit at times and is better rolled on, but I can work around those things.
