Lawn boy was bought by Toro and is now the budget (aka junk) line of Toro mowers. Very low quality. Even lower quality than the standard Toro Recycler mower, which I loathe. Toro prefers that Toro be their premium line and lawn boy be their budget line. Highly recommended to stay away from any new Lawn Boy mowers.

FWIW I have a Snapper FWD mower and it works well. Was a little over $300. I never liked RWD mowers (except Lawn-Boy) because it seems you're fighting the transmission when you're turning around.

They are 25 year mowers, seriously. And you can find them all day long on Craigslist for $50-$200 depending on condition.

I inherited that, a 5HP 1991 Toro Super Recycler, from my Dad.

I treat it with Amsoil 10w30/30 or Rotella.

Spend the money and get a Snapper. I have had three, each one lasting 13, 14 years. the one I have now is 10 yrs old and not a problem. This one has a Kawasaki engine, much better than the last with a Briggs. I think this one will go 20. Also the drive and transmission are indestructable. I have never had a problem, except changing a belt or a clutch disk, which is maintenance anyway.
