The hot part of Australia isn't as hot as much of the SW US. Ozzies tend towards hyperpole.
Well, if that's the case, I wouldn't want to even visit there.
FWIW, my mother lives in Alice Springs, right in the geographic centre of Oz, and from about October through March, the daytime maximum temperature hardly ever dips below 40*C/105*F, and 46*C/115*F is quite common.
The hottest ever recorded temperature in Australia was 53.1*C/128*F at Cloncurry, Queensland in 1889.
The highest ever recorded temp in the US of 56.7*C/134*F was in Death Valley on July 10, 1913. This would have to be close to, if not the world record. So you beat us there.
The lowest temp. ever recorded here was only -23*C/-10*F on the 28 June 1994.
Most of Australia experiences at least a couple of +40*C days each summer. Thats hot enough.
Rick.
