A little over my head. It has 2 85's listed and I wouldn't know what it means in real world terms when trying to compare the 80 to the 90.

I certainly appreciate all the help though.

Nissan typically will have a sealed viscous LSD. So, it won't see your gear oil.

This is what I suspect, they seem to have moved to the 85.

Where did you get this information from?

I am in Northern Ohio so yes, it's pretty darn cold here, but very hot as well.

I might as well jump in with this -Motorcraft part# XT-M5-QS. It is a GL-4 synthetic 75/90 gear oil made primarily for trans axles.
It is Ford's answer to some shifting problems they had in some of their manual trans cars.
Totally transformed my difficult shifting '08 Mazdaspeed3.
Google it and look for Ford's chemical and lubricants web page - interesting reading indeed. Also plenty of car club entries about it too. Just providing another alternative.
Cheers

Basically telling you a new light 90 (at 13.5 cSt) is VERY close to a 85 <13.5 max.

Thanks, I have seen mention of that one. Is it usually pricey? I found the GM lube that is the same as Nissan and Castrol Syntorq at local GM dealers, but it was very expensive.

To Pablo, I quoted you, but either I did something wrong or quotes get weird when there's a few to deal with. So this reply is to your last reply:

Thanks.

What's the difference between the 2 different 85's on that chart? There's on up higher that doesn't have a number in the maximum column.

Take it from a fellow Nissan manual transmission owner. Fill your car`s transmission with Amsoil MTG and you`ll never look back. Contact Pablo and order some from him.

One is 85W the other 85.

I get it now. I feel dumb, but I get it!

It's supposedly Castrol Syntorq and I also found the equivalent part numbers for Dodge and GM.

I had called local GM dealers and they wanted 26 bucks a bottle.

"Castrol Syntorq LT® 75w85w GL-4 rated, low temperature, synthetic gear lubricant is the only factory approved lubricant for NV4500 series transmissions. Some other lubricant manufacturers such as Amsoil may have products that are compatible. However, we have yet to see any other lubricant match the specifications of Syntorq LT®.

Castrol Syntorq LT® is available in quart bottles from Dodge dealers (p/n 4874459) and GM dealers (p/n 12346190). "

That came from this thread: 75W-85W Correct Lube Spec ?

The interesting thing is how many people have tried the Syntorq LT in the NV4500 and then go looking for something else. MTG seems to fit the bill, to a tee. It's a light 75W-90.

The pain seems to be finding the actual specifications, and Castrol doesn't publish the Syntorq LT specs that I can find.

I quoted it from one of the websites that sells it.

Thing is it might be a good choice for me. I've never had issue with the stuff from the factory, and now I know that is what's advised for my car and I can find it!

I read through most of that thread. It looks like the Nissan isn't Syntorq. It doesn't matter to me, but I wouldn't want to spread any misinformation.
