A member of our family snores very loudly.

So ... have any of you found any-thing that works to curb snoring?

We have had to resort to wearing foam ear plugs at night and moving to the opposite end of the house.

I've heard that mypillow can help. I'm due for a new pillow soon and plan to try it out because I wake up with a stiff neck often. mypillow.com

Christian Goodman Snoring Programme has lots of "followers"...pretty much working on pallette and extended togue, like a didgeridoo does.

wedge pillow or those strips that go over your nose. all worth a try

A sleep study would most likely recommend a CPAP device

If the person is over-weight, go to a normal weight. I know many people stopped snoring after they lost weight.

All good things to try. I tried CPAP and it is aweful!

I'm going to have a mouth piece made by my dentist. it will move my lower jaw forward about a 1/2 inch. This opens the airway and works about 80% of snorers... Talk to your dentist.

They are comfortable to sleep with and you sleep like a baby. don't get the cheap ones off the internet. These work but because they are not fitted to your mouth they will cause soreness and receeding gum lines... the custom made ones do not. I tried one of the cheap ones for about 3 weeks and had to stop using it. Like anything else in life get a good one!

Go to a doctor and have the reason for snoring checked. If this person has sleep apnea then their health is deteriorating slowly and given time can lead to death... Forget the $1.98 remedies and see a professional !

If you're overweight, losing weight is the best way to reduce snoring. However, even someone who isn't overweight may snore while sleeping on their back. You'll also want to make sure you don't have other obstructions such as sinus issues that cause snoring.

I use a snore guard (and have for a few years now) available from Amazon. It's similar to the custom mouth guards available from a dentist, but at a much reduced price. Mine was recommended by my dentist.

It takes a month or so to really get used to it, but once accustomed to it the quality of sleep is much improved. It keeps your lower jaw from falling backwards and causing snoring.

Tell me-since I have one of those "cheap" ones off the Internet, recommended by my dentist, and have had it for a few years now, when should I expect to see my gum lines receding and experience the soreness of which you expertly speak?

My dentist checkup last month showed my gum lines are exactly the same as they were 5 years ago, and I have yet to experience any pain.

Does the snorer suffer from deviated septum? If so, this can be corrected surgically.

Another easy thing to try are those nose strips, such as Breathe Right. However, I've found that in my case they don't always work 100% of the time. I also noticed that I snore more if I had a couple of drinks in the evening.

CPAP is the most likely cure. Breathe rite is more of a "band Aid" solution that does litte for most people. The surgery sounds a bit scary...

Is that the brand you're using? I did a quick search and found the Snore Guard brand seems to be fitted to you, while other brands typically found on Amazon are not. Maybe I overlooked it?

Like GhostFlame, I also have problems with snoring, own a VTX 1800C (2002), use Rotella T6, and have tried the moldable mouthguards from the Internet. One area that we differ is that the cheap moldable mouthguards work for me. They are just like the mouthguard I wore for high school football. To mold it to your mouth, you dip the mouthguard in very hot water for a short time and then place the mouthguard in your mouth to mold it to your teeth.

When I wear my mouthguard at night, it holds my lower jaw slightly forward so I do not snore. I have not had gum issues from my cheap mouthguards. I would recommend giving them a try.

I have tried CPAP on multiple occasions and I can not get comfortable with the headgear. The last CPAP machine I tried was very, very quiet and even added humidity to the air being blown into my nose. I wanted it to work but I could not get comfortable. Also, getting up in the middle of the night is a pain when you have to deal with the CPAP headgear.

I agree with the "lose some weight" advice but I used to snore like a chainsaw even when I was quite thin in my early 20s.

Give the cheapie mouthguards from Amazon a try and if you have teeth/gum issues, please follow GhostFlame's advice to have your dentist fit a night guard for you.

My wish for a good night's sleep goes out to all of my VTX brothers and sisters. :-)
