NAPA SYNTHETIC NOW MADE BY MOBIL???

I have some napa conventional my dad picked up a week or so ago and some mobil 1, so I went out and checked the bottles. They both have the "G" on the bottom of the bottles. I don't see a 15w50 super synthetic from mobil on their site so maybe the napa 15w50 syn. is mobil 1 w/ a little weaker ad pack or maybe they all are?

they had all weights for $3.49! im about to stock up on it! bought a case today and about to pick up 2 more! checked with my mechanic and he used to wrok at a dodge dealership. he said since MOPAR gave their contract to Shell and their branded oils are now basically Quaker State Synthetic and PYB conventional Mobil sold what that they had of their synthetics to NAPA and Carquest. I tend to trust his judgement on things.

I just went out and checked a case of 5w30 I picked up from Napa last week, it says Ashland Inc. on the back but also has the G on the bottom. I'm pretty sure this would still be the Valvoline stuff. What does the G mean? Is that usually a Mobil thing?

I don't know what it means, I was just assuming it meant Mobil after reading the OP's statement.

I just went and checked my old oil and we have some napa 10w30 sm/sl which has the G on the bottom and also says Ashland Inc. on the back. The newer stuff also has the G and says Ashland Inc. on the back so I'm thinking it's not Mobil. 345hemi do you have a pic of the back label of the syn. you bought from napa?

No since my old SM bottle of 10w30 has a G on the bottle and the pds on napa's site are still ashland inc. I think it's still valvoline. There is nothing wrong w/ valvoline.

thanks! i bought it thinking its a valvoline product. but when dude said they no longer make it for them and mobil does i was really surprised both brands mobil and valvoline are awesome oils in my opinion! i love napa gold oil filters. especially now that i know thanks to the guys on here that they are wix filters.

I didn't believe him but he showed the bottles and the mark on the bottom which was a "G". Has anyone else been told this?

I took pics but cant seem to upload them??? could NAPA synthetic really be Mobil 1????

There could be some truth to that I have noticed the Napa High Mileage Oil now has the API Donut and the SAE Resource Conserving logos same as the Mobil Super High Mileage Oil, most other High Mileage Oils do not have both certifications.

Napa Synthetic is made by Ashland Oil Company ( Valvoline) if you look on any bottle of oil you will see the G on the bottom of the bottle. I have Castrol Edge, Formula Shell Dino, Mobil 5000, Mobil OW/30 all with the G on the bottom of bottle. Probably some type of marking for plastics or msds code.

QS bottles and Pennzoil dont have it on the bottom of their bottles and they are SOPUS products. Was in Wally Mart and checked the bottom of motorcraft and they had the CCC mark no G mark. Super Tech had the WPP mark! The older bottles of Mobil had XOM on the bottom no G mark. Newer mobil 1 and the Valvoline had the G mark. im getting curious as george right now!

Well since Ashland/Valvoline do not refine their own oil, who knows were Ashland buys the majority of their base-stock synthetic oil?

There are not that many major oil refiners around....so Exxon Mobil may supply the synthetic to Ashland/Valvoline....and they add their own special add pack loaded with sodium to the synthetic.

After all....Ashland/Valvoline has to buy the refined oil somewhere since they do not have a source of their own....most of their oil could be supplied by Exxon Mobil.

Guys, I'm betting the farm on this.

That is a great theory. I buy that for sure.
