I'm now thinking of doing 10k OCI with either Napa or ST Syn 5w30. Is there a better option for my use? The prices are identical(Napa $17.45/5qts vs. ST $17.47/5qts). I'll continue to use a M1EP filter. My 05 Corolla now has 204k miles and drive 60 mi/day rt on the hwy, very little stop and go or short trips. I've reviewed some UOAs but want feedback.

In May I got an UOA on 10.2k OCI with M1EP 5w30 (TBN 2.4). [censored] Labs recommended up to 13k. I had been hoping the oil would go 15k. It was my first use but prev. had PP in.

Basically, I'm trying to more out of my dollar and if the 'generic' syn can go 10k the mile/dollar would be cheaper option. I know I may need another UOA if I switch.

Id have to vote super tech in this case. Napa is a great oil but its not a great extended OCI oil. There have been UOA at 5-7K that have shown low TBN.

The M1EP with TBN of 2.4 could have easily went the 15K, they were just telling you go to 13K and then test so you didn't go that long blindly. M1 oils get a tbn between 2-3 and stay there for thousands of miles. If you don't want to run M1EP, QSUD is only $20.97/5qt jug at walmart.

Is the car a rust bucket or you don't care about it?

A UOA isn't telling you anything about wear on an engine. It's just letting you know if the oil is contaimnated or dirty.

I mean, saving a few dollars in car ownership by stretching OCI's out is kinda ridiculous when you consider the replacement cost of the vehicle is HUGE.

I never will understand this mentality. But that's ok too.

Try a 10k mile on cheap syn. Im sure it will do just fine for 10k miles especially since ur mainly hwy miles. Or you can get the M1 EP and push it to 15k miles and do another uoa.

As said before, QSUD is another choice with price very close to what you want.

If I had to choose, I'd pick NAPA. It would give me an excuse to visit the store ...

What OCIs do you two use?

I'd go with ST over the NAPA. As NAPA is basically a "light" version of Valvoline Synpower, it gives good wear results but does not seem to be designed for long runs.

A UOA at 7500 would probably tell you you could hit 10k. Or spring an extra $3 and get QSUD which can hit 10k highway miles with good confidence.

6k for the Altima running M1 0w30 or a 50/50 mix of M1 0w20 and 0w40.

My Accord, I haven't changed that oil yet. Just got it. Probably about the same, but haven't decided on an oil yet. I'm either going with M1, RLI, or Penn Ultra. I think.

I'm just saying that UOA's don't tell you squat if running ST or Napa oil for 10-15k miles (or any oil for that matter) is destroying your engine.

10k can do depend on your car and how you drive it. hwy drive is the easiest. you might feel more comfort with 7.5k oci if 2 or 3 dollar waste means nothing to you.

I would not limit the choice to NAPA and ST if you are going to go 10K. For 10K, I am using PP or M1. The extra dollar or two is NOTHING over a 10K interval.

Napa synthetic is rebranded Synpower, and I like the individual quart bottles better anyway. It meets dexos1 standards as well as ACEA A5. Go to 10k and get the UOA done.

And besides, the odometer in your car will stop working at 299999 anyway.

Why spend the extra coin on the M1 filter when Napa Platinum is just as good? And it only costs $7.54 this month to.

Dnewton is using conventional super tech oil in his in his villager, which is a heavier duty cycle and doing 10k drains,so the syn should make it.
Dnewton is practicing what he preaches and the oil holds up for that interval thus far with no apparent issues and no uoa abnormalities.
Forget the uoa unless its a hobby. Unneeded expense.
But I gotta say it. You guys can get the entire M1 line for 23 bucks a jug. Why ever concern yourself with a 10k drain. Then consider the inevitable roll back prices every 6 weeks, which translates to 25 bucks total with filter if the jugs are rolled back.
I wouldn't even need to spend more than a few seconds thinking about it.

Its all about making it thru the winter without having to do an oil change on a freezing drive-way
