Hey group,

My town is getting an O'Reiley's auto parts store. We have had Napa, Carquest, Advanace, and Autozone for many years. How does O'Reiley's compare to the competition in terms of good pricing and quality parts? Not looking for horror stories, just general observations from those of you that go to all the different stores. It is only a few blocks from my house so it will be very convenient.

I live in Fargo, ND by the way.

I don't know, but they have buy 4 get 1 free on PP at $3.99/qt through 2/27 I think. That's $15.96 for 5 qts...more than the AA and PB specials but $4 less than WM's "Everyday Low Price".

Alas, no 5W-20. Only 5w30 and 10w30.

I spent a week one night many years ago in Fargo.

Not the place to be stuck during the winter.

I've only been to the O'Reiley's in Hudson, WI and a couple in the Twin Cities and I thought they were very nice. I was more impressed with them over Autozone or Advanced.

From what little time I've spent in O'Reilly stores, they seem to carry a lot of decent quality parts, at prices at or near that of AAP & AZ. They're also the only store in town that carries Wix filters, so I like that about them. Lastly, FWIW, O'Reilly stores offer hydraulic assembly fabrication in-house for a variety of automotive applications.

I'll second this. My neighboring town has both an Oreilly's and an Autozone. I almost ALWAYS go to the Oreilly's. I've found their staff to be much more knowledgeable and helpful. On the whole, I think the parts they stock are better than Autozone. And just like above, its my only source in town for Wix filters.

I also prefer the way O'Reilly prints their credit card receipts. They clearly print a detailed description of everything you buy on the receipt. Sometimes, my AZ & AAP receipts have generic descriptions on them, which I don't like.

Buy quite a lot from OReilly professionally. Better quality parts than AZ (for the most part). Here they seem to hire the cream of their competitors employees. Maybe kinda dirty business practice, but evidently wages or benefits are better or people wouldn't leave original employer. From my perspective, makes them easier to deal with than dimwits left at competitors.

Decent quality stuff and the help at the local O'reillys is pretty knowledgeable. They are in my ring of usual suspects when I need parts - Napa, Carquest, and O'Reillys. I avoid Autozone or Checker like the plaugue...

If you were to just compare Autozone and Oreillys the competition would be, for me, and easy one. Autozone often has good sales on their oil, but for parts and customer service i'd go to Oreillys any day over Autozone.

Our backwards town of Jefferson, Ohio won't let AZ nor anyone else not here already (read that Napa and an independant overpriced parts store whose owner owns the "plaza" the store is in.). They want to remain behind the times like Hazzard County was in the show.

Congratulations. I think you'll like the new O'Reilly's a lot. I've posted this thought here before: I moved from Iowa to NC a few years ago. I had access to several O'Reilly stores there; I do not here. And I miss them.

The O'Reilly people were almost always the most knowledgeable and helpful, their products seemed a much better buy than Napa and slightly cheaper than Autozone. The O'Reilly's I've shopped at are almost always very clean. Plus they sell Wix filters, which I'm a big fan of.

Good luck. Stay warm.

O'Reilly is a much better store than AutoZone in the way that they will actually wait on the customer. At the AutoZone they will answer the phone before dealing with a customer standing in front of them.

Awesome information here. Looks like I will be heading over to O'Reilly's next time I am in need of car stuff! I am glad to hear that they seem to hire knowledgable people. The CSK around here is terrible.

"Our backwards town of Jefferson, Ohio..." That's funny, my Dad just died and I had to go back to the funeral home in Andover, Ohio.

I had forgotten how backward that area is. Seemed like I was back in the 1950s.

I stopped in one of ours for the first time today, just because of this thread. It was very clean, very well organized, and the prices were pretty good. I talked to the manager for a bit and told him about BITOG. We talked a little about pcmo and he asked me if he was using good oil for his Jeep 4.0. I regaled him with my "extensive knowledge" of oil (NOT!)...I almost sounded smart, but not quite.

He seemed really interested in our little corner of the world, wrote it down and said he'd be checking it out tonight.

I think I may have recruited a new member.

Oreilly is where I buy most of my parts for the same reasons other folks have listed above. I give them all the business I can.

That's EXACTLY what the town wants people to think.

In a 5 mile radius, I can choose from 3 Autozones, an Advance Auto Parts, a NAPA, and an O'Reilly (note spelling

) Auto Parts. I usually choose the O'R, as they generally have better staff, and they'll price match if someone has it cheaper across the street.
