I just changed the oil today in my 01 Accord. When I went into the case box of my SL Pennz 5w20, there was only 3.5 qts remaining, and my sump is 4.5gts. I found an SL quart of Pennz HM 10w30 lying around and poured that in for the topup.

So this is my summer blend and just in time for the serious heat down here. A 5.2W20.4 blend, I wonder if it meets A3/B4 specs :-) NOT!!!

I would only use 5w20 in a semi syntheic or full syn form only.I use 5w20 semi syn in a 99 4.6 crown vick.Seems ok.Oci at 4k only due to extreme heat and monster traffic jams&A/C is always on.

I have often spiked the 5/20 in my 01' Accord with 1 or 1 1/2 qts of 5 or 10/30 in the summer. No problem at all and the mileage didn't suffer.

South Florida has become very crowded. In fact it seems most of Fla. is getting crowded.

I typically don't spike mine, but I will in a pinch. I reasoned they're both Pennz SL oils, what the heck, and summer heat is here now, so a little thicker won't hurt.

I may even run some of the 10W30 Havoline or TropArtic next time, which I stock for my sons and daughters cars. Especially if it's August when the next time rolls around and I haven't replentished the Pennz stock.

Mike, for those torrid temperatures, use Castrol 20w-50 or Castrol HD-30 single-grade. Anything thinner will result in engine damage.

Oh Lord, I can just see the carnage this post is going to cause......

If you use a 20w50 in most any modern engine you will have engine damage. The boneyard is full of them.I can't believe anyone in their right mind would say use use a hd30 single weight. Most newer cars today use 5w20&5w30.Most can get away in the summer with 10w30.10w40 in usally pushing it for cars '97 and newer. That is even for high heat&heavy traffic.Your better of changing more often than using heavier oil if your worried about it.My friend blew his engine using 20w50 in his 98 towncar:crushed:

Does anyone really think the car makers don't know it gets hot in FL and TX in the summer? They recommend 5w20 and not even synthetic.

Go figure.
