So, this was my failed PureOne filter a few months ago (forget the mileage off the top of my head, somewhere between 3700 and 4700 I think)

Now, unfortunately I already installed a replacement PureOne. So it was a 3,000 mile test (actually 3,010mi... almost 3K perfect). Guess what, it failed... just not as epically. The tear is a lot smaller but still a failure in my book. The smaller tears are on the pleats next to the seam.

And just so that the "cut while opening" folks need proof, the cut was made above the plate

And manufacturing code (the S is my work because I used to have several PureOnes on the shelf and that was to keep it idiot, aka me, proof)

Since I heard nothing back from Purolator on the last failure, did not even bother sending it to them. Much happier with a WIX on the car.

I have 5 of these in the garage on the shelf.. might be a return in my future....

But, if one is doing testing and hopes to even resemble using the scientific method, it has to be repeated over and over. I would assume that if Purolator is looking at damaged, used filters, they won't look at one and state that's good enough to revamp quality control.

I have 3 Pureone's that I'll be returning this week.
I guess it will be Fram's from now on.
Shame on Purolator....

Wouldn't it be funny if Purolator got back with us on what they found? I do know the Quality Control guy (...don't laugh...) said they were sampling and analyzing the problem.... I tried to talk him into simply going out and collecting a few dozen random samples from jiffy lubes, pep boys, employee's cars, etc. and just cut'em open to see what they find. Instead, he told me they have a multi-year systematic, slow-lane, methodical, over-thinking-it, kind of plan to basically do what they could do in one week.

wonder if the Purolator division manager even knows about this stuff yet? Somebody get a message to whoever's in charge.

Yes!

Every time I see one of these threads it makes me glad that I use WIX filters exclusively.

Wix should start paying me for endorsements!lol...

I've used my last Purolator (PL14610) even though it had no tears. There are too many other good options out there. But I still have four USA made Mann filters that I got for less than $4 each. They'll get used some day, I guess.
