better change the intake gaskets fast!
probably worth fixing that one as new frigidair are crap.
common name in the repair world is frig i dare

You only hear about problems on the internet. I have a two year old Maytag Neptune washer and dryer. You know, those washers that "always" fail and are extremely expensive to fix. I have not had one problem with the washer or dryer.

I am happy with my $100 temporary Maytag washer I purchased back in 1999. It was "refurbished", probably soap cleaned off of it with 6month warranty. The date stamped inside the model plate is 1982.

When it finally dies I will buy an efficient front loader.

That's a pretty broad statement-like saying all American cars are junk.

I've been pretty pleased with our 3 year old Amana-zero problems.

My mistake. I should have worded it "all the new ones I have owned recently are junk." I may go w/Maytag next time.

No reason for me to lie. Just sharing my experiences.

Funny, I was going to post about front versus top loaders.

Just spent 4 days at my parent's place, and they have a front loader "to save water".

The kids clothes comprised one load, ours a second, and the bedclothes a third.

Our inefficient top loader takes all of that in one hit, using less water/power (and time).

Front loaders also spin faster, extracting more water so = less drying. A friend of mine @ work just bought one. I let her do the chosing after I supplied her with the C.R. buying guide; quite frankly the electronic controls on all these new ones will probably be the Achilles heel. One repair and the savings are out the window. I'm sticking with my top loading Maytag with the mechanical timer...

Regarding Frigidaire: my parents have had bad luck with the ones that came in their house.

My parents bought a Neptune washer and dryer set. Very nice all in all but not something practical for those who go though a lot of laundry. The washer is too small capacity and the dryer takes **** near forever. I have a Whirpool set that I got on sale at Sears. New but built like the old style...heavy duty motors and pumps, no digital controls. They work great and the dryer takes half the time the Neptune does. As for the oven, I'd really like to fix it. Hoping the control module has a short in it or a loose connection. Think it might have something to do with the thermostat.

We have a set of Meile front-loading washer/dryer and it's fantastic. it literally spins so fast that the clothes come out almost dry.

Now, my next purchase is an AGA stove for my wife - about 800 pounds, and priced somewhere near the mark of silver, I believe...

Nope...worked great for the few months I've had it. It's at least 30 years old from what I can gather.

This was a tongue-in-cheek shot at GM btw...not to be taken seriously.

All the new ones are junk. A lot of the parts are made in Mexico and the quality is inconsistent. I had the control panel go out on my new whirlpool range and the timer go out on my new Whirlpool dryer shortly after the warranty was up. I replaced the parts myself and both parts were made in Mexico. The replacements have been in use for about 3 years.

What isn't working on your stove? Usually the thermostat is the first thing to go on the older type. Easy fix. On our new whirlpool range the panel controls everything and there is no fix for it except to replace the whole thing (for 120 bucks but it's an easy job). Just remember where all the wires plug in. For this reason I would recommend you keep your old one rather than get a new one because they all have a similar control panel on them now.

I'm thinking (and hoping) it's just the thermostat wire. I labeled all the wires before pulling the unit out...not many at that. I really don't want to get a new one either.

I've got frozen pizzas piling up in the freezer...

my grandparents had one like that.
oven quit but broiler still worked.
female spade terminal on the element burned off at the crimp.
5 minute fix.
iirc the only repair it ever needed.
ranks up there with their 76 zenith tv.
i repaired it twice and both times it was simple and cheap.
still plays better than a new(junk)zenith/lg
fix up and keep your old one.
