Overall fuel economy on my first trip (370 miles) 43.1 mpg. This was at 75 miles per hour at approximately 6000 ft above sea level.

Suuuuweet!

What are your breakin plans? I wonder what a lighter weight friction-modified ester oil would do for mpgs after breakin...? 5% increase? 10% increase?, no increase? hmm... I wonder what removing the emissions stuff and tuning would do to mpgs? hmmm... Stop posting on here you are making me want to buy one to experiment with! ha ha no really please do post mpgs and updates. Neat car!

Very nice. I don't know how accurate the multi function displays are for TDIs but I was surprised at how accurate it was in the GTI. Changes in road surface roughness, wind direction, drafting vehicles, etc. can be seen right away on the MFD.

The multi function is surprisingly accurate. Within a few 10ths of a mpg compared with paper and pencil computations.

$24,109. Around $1400 below sticker thanks to USAA pricing. Has everything except the NAV system including the cold weather package.

Thanks. I'll keep you posted. VW calls for 10,000 mile oil changes with 507.00 spec synthetic oil. Sounds reasonable to me based on some uoa's I've seen.
Breakin? I've given it some full throttle acceleration occasionally through the gears, but nothing too crazy. Most of the mileage has been highway mileage so far.
In 6th gear, the engine runs at about 1800 rpm at 65 and about 2100 at 75 mph. I've had a few 50 mpg short trips with it but you have to treat the throttle REALLY gently to get 50 mpg, but it is possible. The engine only has about 1000 miles on it, so I expect that the economy will improve a bit, but not too much. Maybe 1 to 2 mpg better.

West Germany. It has a "W" VIN.

Thanks. I'm really happy with it so far. It has loads of torque down low in the RPM band. Wheel spinning torque if you aren't careful. like 240-ish ft. lbs. I think.

Now two things that would get in my way....

The extra stuff that EPA had to add and $24k...

But nice rig. Enjoy!

I don't disagree. $24k is a lot for such a small car. It's definitely a "clean" diesel. Common rail injection. Particulate filter. Exhaust gas temperature sensors and oxygen sensors. You can't even smell the thing running. You can barely even hear it run with the hood closed.

I didn't buy it just for the fuel economy. It's more of a toy. It has a much more solid road feel than any other small car I test drove. No comparison.

Germany, plain & simple. The Wall came down 1989. Nice ride!

The "W" code designates the production facility as Wolfsburg. All our Golf and GTI come from Wolfsburg. No more Curitiba junk...
