Hi all, during the last year I've been collecting 2 stroke lawnboys. Buying them off of Craig's list, friends, etc. I really enjoy diagnosing the problems (carb, ignition coil, carbon choked exhaust ports) Most people selling these say "I don't know whats wrong with it, but it just quit running" Partstree.com has become my go to place for parts and information.

The 10333 had the normal surging issues so I drilled out the idle jet and the main jet and it now is a monster!

I know Lawnboy recommends running 32:1 but I've been running 50:1 with Amsoil Sabre. I get no smoke and they all seem to run great.

Model 7263

Model 10301

Model 10323

Model R8035AE (not yet restored)

Collection

Good old mowers. I have three of them (dont even know model no's off the top of my head.) One is a 1979, one is a 1983, and the third is the last year of the 2 cycle. I run 50:1 Echo in mine (as well as all of my 2 cycle equipment.)

lust...envy...

Thanks for inspiring two OPE deadly sins in me

thanks for the pics, looks like a nice collection so far. why do they have the rear and front wheels so closer together ? seems weird compared to other mowers.

I have two of these 2-stroke Lawnboys. One is the #10323. These movers are very stable on hills. (Puts my Honda to shame on hills.) Mine are hard to start until I put gas shut-off valve and ran the movers out of gas between ea. use. Very nice movers!

I still use the one I bought 20 years ago, used! The only thing I don't like about it is that it uses a lot of fuel compared with the 4-stroke unit I use in autumn.

I like the sound and the smell of the exhaust of those mowers! I used to have one that had the gas tank mounted high on the rear. Not sure what model it was though. Wish I never got rid of it.

Nice collection. My family always had lawnboys. The sound and smell of them bring back memories from the 60's and 70's. I made a lot of money as a kid pushing a lawnboy around. I'm using a 20 year old one now as a trim mower.

Kewl, another mower nut...

I have three Snappers, with maybe $100 in all... That was to buy carb, gaskets and filter for the '04 Honda plus plus pulley, blade hub & blade to be able to use the Honda on the '83 Snapper deck...

The newest is the '87 on right(trade zero money invested) and it's earmarked as parts for the other two...

I should show my wife your collection. She gave me all kinds of grief for buying a Honda 3 years after buying an Lawnboy. I like options when I mow!

That is kinda cool,I like the one with the white housing. But my yard is way too large for a push mower.I did have a pusher for trimming, but it died.I'll have to get another one off Craigslist for this spring.

That is the 1974 model, and I believe the first year that had the one piece ignition coil (they did away with the old points style). Even though it is a push mower, its very easy to push due to the magnesium deck. I'm not sure how much it weighs, but it's super light compared to any steel deck push mowers of today.

Hokiefyd, do you know what year the 8157 is? My dad bought one (not sure of the model number, but it was a rear bagger) brand new around 83 or 84 and used it up until about 2005 or 2006 when he got his riding mower. It looks almost exactly like yours except it doesn't have the curved crossbar in the handle bars, his is straight, and the cooling fan is flush with the top of the engine cover/gas tank. He gave it to me before he passed away last year, but its still sitting out at my moms house. Hasn't run since he put it away and he had bags of lime in the shed with it and mice have gotton the lime all over everything. Its looking pretty rough, lots of surface rust on the handle bars and the paint is coming off the deck, needs a primer bulb assembly, but I'd really like to restore the thing mainly for sentimental reasons. I currently have a 94 or 95 silver series with the [censored] techumseh engine but would like to restore my dads old one in the meantime.

It is been my observation that the vast majority of 2 stroke Lawn Boys were sold in A) the Midwest USA (the factory was in Minnesota, I believe) or B) in mountainous regions like Pittsburg or West Virginia. (reason being you can mow on slope without loosing lubrication with a 2 stroke).

Since you are located in neither (Florida), the picking are slim to none. All is not lost, if you scour either eBay or the craigslists of the regions I mentioned, you should be able to find a nice one. There is also a mower dealer in the state of NE which make has a nice business restoring 90's versions 2 stroke Lawn Boys and Toros with 2 stroke Suzuki engines (mostly Toros) to showroom, factory spec condition. However be prepared to pay over $800 before shipping.

Full disclosure, I own A] a 2002 Lawn Boy model 10552 - 6 1/2 HP, aluminum deck, electric start, Easy Stride (Personal Pace) transmission and B] a 2002, Lawn Boy model 22261 - a highly sought after Commercial version, with same engine, aluminum deck, big, orange 1 gallon gas tank, steel wheels, and a 3 speed transmission. Both mowers weigh under 75 lbs. My mom has the restored Toro with the 2 stroke Suzuki engine that I mentioned.
