I've jumped in w/ both feet (is there any other way to 'jump in'?)
I'm about 500 miles into the clean phase on our MPV. engine has about 140K on it. a little history: we bought the MPV last year, drove out to cincy OH for it, always wanted one of these 4WD models, got a good deal. up to date, all records, recent timing belt, etc. was going through a bit of oil, maybe a qt/1K. had the typical Japanese V6 tappet noise as well.
1st OC, switched to amsoil. I'm not sure, but leaking seemed to get worse, because consumption sure did. tappet noise went away, though. these 3.0 mazda engines have some leaky O-ring issues. so about 2 months ago, changed out the bad O-ring and cam cover gaskets, did an OC w/ some citgo 10W30 that had a rebate, and added a bottle of auto-rx. so far, no consumption whatsoever; in fact, oil is still clean looking. I think I was leaking more oil than burning it. plan to run it to 3K and change to rinse phase. may take awhile, because this is my wife's car and she doesn't drive very far.
only weird thing so far, the tappet noise is still not apparent, but I have a NEW noise, a bit louder, like a 'clanking', present sometimes at idle once it's warmed up, goes away upon acceleration. never had it before, so can't say what it could be. I'll be paying attention to see if it gets worse or not, almost sounds like something on the outside of the motor, not like anything internal, i.e., a bad bearing. I guess time will tell.

You may get more noises during the rinse phase. Some passages clean out faster than others causing some stuff to drain quicker ..etc..etc..etc. They all should pass in time. Just relax and don't second guess yourself.

HAVE FAITH IN YOURSELF, SON!!!

How about K-y?

wouldn't that clog up the pump? I did want to try those new flavored versions though...

UPDATE:
MPV is running strong, I'm about 1200 miles into the clean phase (it's my wife's car, just used for errands and whatnot) but the weird new noise I had reported is gone, the typical tappet noise has not reared it's ugly head yet, and there is NO oil consumption. idle is quiet, too.
I'm really liking this auto-RX stuff!

Maybe also use Auto-Rx in the transmission, and also in the power steering.

For best vehicle life, renew all fluids periodically. All oil-bases fluids oxidize due mainly to heat. Brake fluid becomes moisture contaminated by picking up moisture from humidity in the air.

yes, thanks. it'll take me awhile to get there, but that's the plan.

I would, except for the fact that I spent huge $ to get my mechanic to do a filter/full fluid changeover to Amsoil ATF. it was working fine before, but now it is OH so smooth, I don't want to mess with it now. I'm hoping that I never have to get into the trans again.
power steering? I guess I'll consider it when I do the belts before the winter.

quick update (even if no one else is reading this, or cares, it helps me keep things organized!)
about 1400 miles into the clean phase now, the start up ticking came back for the 1st time sunday morning. when away after a few minutes of idling.
I have to put a voltmeter on her as well, the battery light stays on for a minute or few after startup now.

It may be that the oil is already pretty dirty from the ARX cleaning application, or that your filter is somewhat loaded up, restricting flow to the top end. I would suggest either spinning on a new filter and/or try to run some highway miles, with higher oil pressure while reaching the 2500 mile mark.

good idea. the oil is still a nice golden honey brown, but maybe the filter is used up. I wish I had a real oil pressure gauge, but all of the driving is local, maybe it needs a hwy run. thanks.

mpvue,

It's not unusual to get odd ticks and whatnot during the various evolutions. You may encounter more during the rinse phase. Just hang and don't worry.

thanks again, Gary. it was your encouragement earlier in the thread that calmed my concerns.
this is just taking awhile, since my wife doesn't drive much, but for errands and such.

cool, maybe I'll take it to work once or twice a week (it hurts, though, w/ the VUE getting so much better mpgs!)
