I did two drains & fills on my '98 Subaru Legacy with Specialty Formulations Autoglide ATF today. I got out just under a gallon each time (using a mityvac), so the transmission should now have roughly 80% new, 20% old fluid. This transmission was rebuilt 10 months ago.
First impressions: the hard 1->2 shift when cold is now almost seamless, the 'lazy' 3->4 shift when cold is now crisper and firmer. A definite improvement over the dino ATF! I will report with 2nd impressions tomorrow, the outside temp tomorrow morning should be around freezing.
Second car: 2001 Saab 9-5 wagon, 60k service calls for one drain & fill. I did that - the old fluid (Texaco ATF, Dexron III according to manual) was very dark, somewhat brownish, and had a slight burnt smell. I am sending a sample to Blackstone Lab for a UOA. The mityvac took out about 3.3 qts, I refilled with Autoglide.
First impressions: the saab's very smooth shifting transmission is now even better. Shifts are almost instantaneous and are very crisp feeling. I also did this car's winter tires and ran out of time to do more drain/fill cycles, and will have my mechanic repeat and use up the remaining 1.5 gallons of Autoglide I have on hand. I did all this at my mother-in-law's, my apartment landlord forbids auto maintenance
and so cannot finish this myself
As I said, I will post my colder-temps impressions in the Subaru tomorrow. Cheers!
