Now i will take a pic of the 02 Sensor. its right there, and i stand do much to gain as mine is most likely ddeep fried.. it seems to be ONE wire, and its purple!

Do i just need to:

1) "Cut" the wire and re-splice?

2) Socket out old 0@ sensor
3) Socket in NEW 02 Sensor?

1-2-3, saving $100s of GAS amaybe ?

Ill take a ppic too.. thanks!

You are correct sir. While they make special sockets, if you are cutting the wire and putting in a universal replacement, you can use a regular. Think it's 7/8" though a 22mm might fit.

Sometimes you can also get a box end wrench on it. Sometimes they come out better if you run the engine a minute before hand.

Are you going with the $18 bosch? They work well in my GM stuff.

Do follow the directions exactly. You slide the heat shrink over one end, crimp the wires together then heat shrink the whole mess water-tight. Don't forget the heat shrink!

The o2 sensor will only work as well as your feedback carburetor and its wonky choke.

You could always just do the 'rent a tool', pay for an 02 sensor removal tool at an autoparts place, like AutoZone, use it to remove/replace the part and then return the part to get your money back. They do this no problem.

IF you brought the vehicle down to them(not too far away for vehicle to heat up for a long time), you could let it sit 30 minutes with the top up and then just do it all there, hey maybe even a store employee would help you replace it so no money down/reimbursement needed?

Unless you just have to splice into the harness still and figure you can do it all with the tools you already have, anyway...

Well. I replaced all 6 spark plugs AND WIRES today!! Wow! MORE POWER!

.. left the 02 sensor alone. BOTH NAPA stores said "Unless its Check Engine light, i wouldnt bother with it."

My old plugs were "burnt at the boot" and one or more wires must have been resistance-ified, because its smoother now.

I think your model year qualifies for field service mode. It depends on if you have the 12 pin connector or a ghetto older 5 pin one. Cali usually gets the advanced stuff first.

You should check this independently, but you start the car, warm it up, and stick a wire between the rightmost connector and the 2nd most right most connector on your ALDL/ OBDI port. This is similar to the code pulling technique except you pull codes with the engine OFF.

The check engine light will blink in relation to the o2 sensor reading. If it stays on or stays off you have a lazy o2 or (more likely) a carburetor problem that can't be fixed within the narrow range of the mixture control section of the carb.

OBDI cars are pretty stupid when it comes to o2 diagnostics. However that said you can pull your o2 and look at it and post pics here for free! Should have a light ashen grey to black deposit on it.

I know how your o2 sensor works; I was musing if there's a way you can find out if the current one works before blowing more of your hard earned money on something you may or may not need.

Google "GM field service mode" for more info on how your car works.
