Here it comes..he's asking what?!..

First, I don't care about the cost. I've tried Motul 300V mixed with Eco-nergy. I like the way the K20Z3 engine runs up. Is there a good reason why I can't run straight 5w30 300V in the winter?

I asked a fellow BITOG member and I would like to tap the many.

Thanks.

Other words a daily driver but a hard daily driver. Is there something about 300V that could harm the engine? It's just a good high performance ester oil right?

no way 300V harms the engine, it's a superior racing oil but it's just pricy

we have tried all kinds of racing oil and found 300V is the best you can find and outperforms Redline oil, when it comes to a race, u need protection more than anything, and 300V holds the oil pressure well under long period of time

everyone who race with me all putting 300V in their expensive racing engine...i have a B18 type-R so i use 15W-50 coz they burn some oil, but my frds who has K20/K24 they use a thinner oil like 10W-40

actually Amsoil oil offers similar protection so i would recommond using Amsoil but they lack of such ester power in the 300V, that's why they are so freaking expensive

The motorsports shop I've been dealing with said their Viper races cars would have valve train noise with Redline and high oil temp problems with Mobil 1. When they switched to the 15w-50 300V no more valve train noise and no more oil temp problems. It's interesting that one would have to change 300v using it for a daily driver around 3,000 miles. Is it because of the additives? For a superior oil why change at 3,000 miles? Ester is a great cleaner.

Thanks, you've been a great help.

Received my answer from Motul FYI -

Hello Mr. :

Thank you for the interest in the Motul Product. As Steve has mentioned, it is not to your benefit to mix 300V with 8100. If you are looking for all out performance, go with 300V. If you are looking for a good balance between fuel economy and “street” performance. Go with 8100 5W30.

Some people use high performance tires like Toyo FZ4 for the street, but if you want race performance you can run a DOT “R” compound like an RA1, I hope that gives you a clearer picture.
Sorry, please do not compare Motul with [all fairness I'll call it brand x -Forest], there is no comparison. Motul abides by all of the API and ACEA standards and submit every product for testing.

Ok, I think that you get my point. I attached a slide so to show you where we stand for wear testing, please note API is not even on that chart because API standards are way below ACEA standards.

[CHART - I don't know how to cut and paste the chart in...]

The left is our new 300V formula; the middle is the superseded version. 300V surpasses ACEA standards.

The choice is yours what product you want to run, but chose by been informed.

Thank you for your interest in the Motul product.

[Joe added when asked about OCI's]

: always follow the factory drain interval, but it is good to know that it can go to 8000 km.

I've been running 300V in my Subaru for a long time now (about 40K miles, not all in one OCI hehe), UOA looks great and car runs smoothly. I usually do about 4K-6K OCI's and they usually involve one long road trip (800 miles +) and about 100-200 autocross and ProSolo laps, we get a lot of drivers and races in this one car.

I LOVE the 300V, so much so that I had to keep inventory of it on the shelves. To see that it has been further improved is a very good thing, a few extra $$ per ltr is no big deal compared to an engine rebuild.

FWIW, I have 190K on this engine, no smoke and no real consumption to worry about (0.5qt per 4-5K miles), no drips, no leaks. K&N, Wix, or Mobil 1 oil filters.

So 300v can be used in a daily driver ? Or is it too much ? I have some 5w40 8100 I am looking forward to trying next summer

From what I understand yes you can but you have to change it out every 5K miles. Why? I don't know maybe to protect themselves. 300v is expensive $25 per 2 liter can. 8100 is just under $7.00 per liter. The 8100 is ester base as well.

Ester based means nothing! What % ester base? Motul always does misuses the word or I should say misleads. Only the 300V series is majority ester based. The others are not last time I spoke to them. They are PAO and some are Group III.

I am having trouble finding the difference between PAO base and Ester base. Can someone point me to the right spot ? Or give me a brief detail on the differences and which are better ?

Motul 300V in canada is now 23 dollars per Litre...and that's the wholesale price

8100 0w30 is at 14 dollars per Litre, 5w30 and 5W-40 are at 10 dollars per Litre

so i think i will leave the 300V for my racing days...i don't need all 220hp in my civic on the street

any good place to find motul in WA?

Sure...Maltby Motorsports in Woodinville. 425-481-1706 www.maltbymotorsports.com 14301 NE 193rd Place Woodinville, WA. 98072

They stock the 8100 ester base line of automotive oils.

Cam use to use Mobil 1 in his Viper racing cars but oil temp was too hot went with Motul 300v 15w-50 no temp problems and no wear after engine tear down. He tried Redline but had too much valve train noise.

Good luck!

How about Michigan dealers?
Thinking of Motul for the SRT8 Jeep which calls for
Mobil1 0W-40, am running Amsoil Euro 5W-40 now without
problems. The car is a daily driver with OCI's about
6 months/3K.

Email from Motul:
Hello xxxxxx,

Thank you for your interest in the Motul product. Motul 8100 Eco-nergy 5w30 is a Group V motor oil. It is “Ester-based synthetic technology”. It carries the following standards. ACEA A5/B5, API SL/CF.

Hope this helps

Well Buster I spoke to them over email and phone yes they are an ester base group V.

I guess I could be mislead by AMSOIL with their niffty color charts and perfect oil I do use but perfect NO. I've read the UOA's. PP and the excitement for that oil which is a group III. I'm not sure about this forum it seems you have to use the "expert's" oil or your just a little person when we show what statistics are available who don't have all day to write on BITOG. As far as I'm concerned and know, Terry Dyson is the only expert and all around nice guy who made the time to email me explaining his findings on motor oils. I do have good information on Motul from Terry but I'll keep that to myself. People who are interested in Motul if I have any information I will help 'em out.:(

Forest, I have been using the 300V for some time now and I have no issues with it in daily use. If you look at the VOA on this site you will see that the additive pack is very beefy, combine that with grp 5 and you see why is exceeds all known standards.

Try S-G Import Auto Parts, they have 8-10 stores around the Detroit area. I always go there to get Elf/Total oil for my Saabs, but I know I have seen Motul and Lubro-Moly products in their stores on ocassions.
