I've learned a lot of this forum in the past weeks so I could not resist cutting open my first filter, a Motormaster Formula 1 from Canadian Tire. It costs about $2-3 more than the Fram and QS filters they sell. On my examination (this may not be a surprise to many of you experienced guys) I found a Fram filter complete with cardboard endcaps and neo bybass valve. The only difference is the orange gasket which is supposed to be PTFE treated for easy removal. I've been buying these filters for a while thinking they were better and hope that after this post, no one else will.

bernhardschau,

Wonder which Formula 1 teams use THESE "Formula 1" filters?

the one in first place, where everyone else went into the wall as his filter burst spewing goo all over the track as he coasted to the finish line bellowing smoke ..lol

Yup. They're the Fram extraguard filters.

Oops. Meant to say toughguard.

rpn453,

I'm not sure it's a toughguard either since the drain-back valve was not silicone but a black material. The Fram site says the DG has a silicone valve. Maybe its a mix of two crappy filters thrown together with a new label and price.

Well that's enough to build one's confidence in them, isn't it?
