Running a Motorguard with a Permacool universial adaptor on a Ford 4.0 OHC. Drilled the Ralph recommended 7/32 hole through the adapter to eliminate a start up rattle. The filter does not drain and makes a mess at change out time. Can I remove the restrictor to allow better drain back to the block. It is mounted high and shouldn't be this messy. The pressure diff on the in-out should be very low, and shouldn't have too much flow if eliminated. Thanks

Have you tried slightly loosening the MG when it's hot to allow some air to escape into the filter before filter change? I also had a problem with oil staying in the filter when I wanted to change paper. Just turn the handle a small amount to allow air to enter but keep the oil from leeking out the sides.

Are you hoses contineously downhill to the Permacool universial adaptor? Any uphill may cause some flow problems. I had a slight uphill flow on mine. I moved the filter up an inch or so which seems to have helped. Do some playing around with it until you learn the proper process. Keep us posted on your solution.

Hope this helps.

The hoses are a down hill run from the filter. I have tried cold, hot , cracking the handle to let the air in, still makes a mess. How much do you turn the handle, maybe I'm not opening enough? If I could get this part straightened out,

I turned mine about 1/2 turn or so. If I turn it too far, oil will leak out the middle so I try to find the happy medium of just before the middle leaks. I do it when it's hot.

I agree completely, 97astro. Just add a little slack to it b/c the engine does rotate slightly... I mean you don't want a perfectly straight hose b/c the engine can yank it out when on - especially between high acceleration or transmission shifts.

I was showing my Motor Guard filters to a person today. I opened the filter up only to find that the oil hadn't drained down. So it looks like I need to plan on slightly unscrewing the wing-nut a little to allow air in release the oil when its hot.

The restrictor orifice isn't necessary with the sandwich adapter. It's a little risky shipping the filters with no restictor because someone might hook it up in the conventional way with no restrictor orifice. If the filter looks like it should drain but doesn't it usually works loosening the tee handle until it just starts to pull the halves apart. On some brands of TP filters I have put air fittings in the tops and pushed the oil out with an air pump. So far I have managed to avoid that with the Motor Guard. My Subaru has a sandwich adapter with an old M-100. I crack the tee handle when the filter is still hot. They are all the same. If the air can't get in the oil can't get out. On the Camry when the oil starts draining out of the engine it pulls the oil out of the filter.
