For the record, I didn't do any bashing (unbelievable huh?)...I just stated a fact...

And what does that misinformed statement have to do the the topic of motor oil?.,,

I like motorbikes, and thus, by implication the folks who ride them. Around here one usually raises a hand to a biker coming your way. Who often won't wave back at a guy like me on a German bike??? Maybe a generallization, maybe because a lot of the riders of a certain make are "look at ME" newbies who aren't even aware of the custom.

Or a guy could buy something other than a Harley...there are actually other makes that are comfortable for long distances AND they perform...

Really?

If it rolls with two wheels and has an engine then that is good enough for me. I really don't get this brand warfare thing that you guys like to wage. Let people ride what they want to.

Absolutely nothing..and it wasn't misinformed, unless you actually believe there are no other brands of bikes that are comfortable and also perform....if that's the case then YOU are misinformed...

No warfare, just stating a fact...I'd like to know why Harley guys take offense to someone mentioning other brands...last time I checked it wasn't a crime to ride something other than a Harley...

I hear ya. I don't care what anyone else rides,at least they ride.
I like my bike,I also like other bikes. The victory judge is a nice bike and I would love to add one to my stable. I have a Yamaha venture. It's an 83,V4, accelerates as well as my Harley does and weighs more. I bought it to turn into a trike so my girl can put our youngest on the back and not be worried about dumping it.
I've also got an 86 750 Honda shadow. It's a great bike especially in the city. It's very nimble and easily maneuvered however the seating position wreaks havoc on my back. It's great for getting from point a to point b but any more than half an hour on it and I can't walk.
I've also got a 450 nighthawk. I bought it a few years ago for my girl to cut her teeth on. It's also a great city bike but really isn't heavy enough for the highway, the wind blows the rider all over the place. That bike has an 11000rpm red line. It cruises at 60mph but doesn't have much steam to pass. It tops out at 75mph max.
Anyways. All my foreign bikes have conventional rotella in the sump. My harley gets rotella in the primary and this year I'm going to test it in the engine, just to see and hear how it performs.
I've been using high end syns in the engine and at 18-23 bucks a quart it's painfully obvious that I can buy a 5 gallon pail of rotella for roughly the same price as the 3 quarts I need for 1 oil change. Even if I have to change it sooner the cost difference more than covers shortening the interval.

I started on a Honda Nighthawk and then an Interceptor many moons ago. A few years ago got back into riding, and yes I now have a couple of Harley's,

I don't care what machine a person rides...as long as they are riding

It's obvious to me that you don't like Harleys, and that's OK. Just let the guys who ride them be happy with their ride.

I made no slanderous remarks about Harleys...someone mentioned something about performance and I simply offered a suggestion...no bashing, or badtalking any brands, just a simple suggestion, and immediately the Harley guys come out of the woodwork as though I was dragging their precious brand through the mud...you guys need to lighten up...

+1 I do not discriminate based on brands. I have owned 2 Harleys and they are great bikes. I just like to try different rides. Had 2 Yamahas, 2 Harleys now have a Triumph. Who cares as long as you are on 2 wheels? If I had the $$ I would have 5 different brands.

It's like 31 flavors of ice cream to me.

I don't either. I discriminate based on performance (all catagories) comparing all bikes made....some fall short in this comparison and those are the bikes I stay away from...

I have to agree with you here. Take say the suzuki m109 for instance,it obviously is a Harley knockoff wannabe. Why else would they make a v-twin motor when they have faster 4's and 6's?.It has only been made for 6 or 7 years, has no wind protection, poor sales, hardly any aftermarket support.Company's don't like wasting money on making parts when there's no market for them.Besides you can still buy a new 3 or 4 year old one right off the sales floor. It hasn't quite buried the competition, or even made it nervous. It may be fast, but a V-Rod will spank it so what else is it good for?. I predict it will take the same path as Kawasaki's vn 2000. They only lasted 5 years in production. How about the intruder model line, where are they now? They may have lasted the longest, but again sales fizzled and so did they. The Goldwing is the only metric bike to stand the test of time. The other metric makers should take a few pointers from them. Them maybe they would have a product that sells well and makes them money.,,

Not me. I have owned several Harley Davidsons and they are great bikes. I don't go for the pirate look but loved riding them. They were not very fast in comparison to some of the other bikes I have owned but fun none the less. I don't care what people ride. If they like their experience that is what really counts. After all, wouldn't it be really boring if we were all the same?

If the 109 was a Harley knockoff wannabe as you called it, it would be air cooled, slow, and unreliable....

I noticed when my daughter and nieces were about 12 years old that you usually get the same reaction when you tell a little girl you don't like her favorite boy band that you get when you tell a Harley guy you don't want a Harley. Even if the Harley guy doesn't even own a motorcycle.

And The sad thing is, in years to come you will be trying to help people remember what a m109 was.Not that anyone will care.,,

Typical comment from someone who has some form of bias.
My bike might be slow compared to an r1 but it most certainly isn't slow. I ride with guys with stock 88s that have yet to have anything done to them except oil changes, and over 100k on them. Then there are evo's out there that just won't die.
Get out of the 70s man. The chain drives are gone and amf sold the company.
Harley makes as good a bike as any out there. They are the bar to which all manufacturers attempt to copy, unsuccessfully I might add.
Ride whatever you like grampi, maybe your old lady will let you ride her scooter. Maybe its even an automatic so you don't need to shift.

I can certainly tell from your post that you have no bias...

...I wish my bike had a built-in rear cylinder shut-down curcuit like Harleys do to keep my rear cylinder from overheating...wait, my bike is liquid cooled and therefor it doesn't overheat, so I guess it doesn't need it...still, it would be fun to have just to watch the bike shake itself to pieces like Harleys do...
