I have heard very little discussion regarding MC Full Syn 5w-20. I know that it is usually only available at dealerships and is a little pricy but how does it compare with other popular synthetics? Is it worth the extra cost over MC SynBlend 5w-20?

So that's where people are buying it..

I bet for that price range, some other full synthetics like Pennzoil Platinum or M1 would be just as great.

First of all, the Motorcraft synthetic blend 5W20 is an excellent oil.

None of the oil companies will tell you for certain just how they blend their oil. It has been surmised that Motorcraft full synthetic uses Group III base stocks. Assuming their additive package is up to par, that would put it in the same catagory as Castrol Syntec, Valvoline's synthetic, and Pennzoil Platinum.

It has been argued that Group III base stocks are not really synthetic, but they are definitely well above Group I and Group II that are used for the base stocks of conventional oils. In many ways, Group III closely approaches the performance of Group IV, especially in normal day to day driving.

Where group IV really shines is in extreme temperatures and longer oil change intervals.

With all that said, I am of the opinion that today's conventional oils very nearly perform as well as any of the synthetics for normal driving. If you change oil every 5,000 miles or sooner, you need nothing else.

If you feel you want to spend more money when it isn't really necessary, Motorcraft synthetic will fill your need to wear a fur lined jock strap as well as any other synthetic.

I was using the Motorcraft 5w20 Synthetic Blend for years with no problems then the dealer recently talked me into the Full Synthetic which is double in price...I change out every 5K miles so plan to go back to the Synthetic Blend.

Maybe thats why people call the dealerships stealerships.
