Hello,

Got a tube of dow molykote 33 from mcmaster for a rebuild of a 1982 hirschmann antenna in my MB. The grease was fairly separated at the top - clear liquid came out before the white grease. Should I be concerned? The rest of the grease was consistent, but I worry about separation for something that will likely be used for another 27 years...

what is the nature of molykote 33? if it does separate, does the base have lubricating properties? I always worry about grease separation ending up as a clump of oily goop, with all the good lube flowed out...

I don't have any answers for you, but I can tell you I have had the same problem with 3 brake lubricants. I have GRW Moly Paste Lube and Ceramlub that will have a oil layer on top after sitting for a year.

I also opened a tub of Dow Silicone 111 Brake lube at a store to discover a heavy layer of oil sitting on top.

It does make me wonder what happens in use. I just stir them together and go with it.

I believe the molykote 33 is a silicone based product. The silicone most likely has seperated to the top. Knead the tube to redistribute and mix. You can call the DowCorning product support line 1-800-248-2481.

If it's like my tube of Molykote 33, don't knead it. The tube is made of metal and will fatigue, making a holy mess.

I've had my tube for six years. I use it occasionally - a few times a year - and it shows no signs of separating.

I called DowCorning to make sure the procedures have not changed by the manufacturer. They still recommend to knead the tube to redistribute the seperated silicone or another option also discussed would be to distribute the amount desired into a cup and remix. If you have any other questions please ask.
