I have a 2020 Tacoma 3.5 liter TRD Off Road , just wondering if these Modern engines really need Moly in the oil ? I was running Liqui Moly in my 2019 Subaru Outback with Ceratec and I never heard a peep of chatter other than normal start up noise ..... So, is Moly really needed ?

As an extra additive hell no, open the window and throw the money out ditto Ceratec and other nano, white graphite, and other questionable snake oils.

This right here. We experimented with a LS series GM engine and I wanted to see if the MoS2 would blend into the oil and stay suspended.... Nope, most of it turned to sludge in the oil pan. Same with Ceratec. If you want moly, seek out an oil with moly contents that suit your needs. Thus the reason I run Red Line in everything I own currently, but may move our two Subaru's over to QSUD if the new label stuff still has it's high moly content.

iirc, the only moly in liqui moly is in its name. It doesn't have much moly or as much moly as some other brands.
Amsoil has a good chunk also.
I think they design Toyota engines with moly in mind.

I felt the same way about Ecoboost engines and most if not all Subaru engines. They seem to do better/sound better with higher moly oils. What that threshold is, I'm not sure.

I wonder which current oils have the highest moly? QSUD is the highest that I know of,in the almost 200ppm level. Like the other poster said,I hope the new SP version will still have the high moly.

Red Line, then Amsoil or Shaffers. As for the off the shelf oils it's going to depend on the type of moly used in their formulations. I was just wondering the same about the QSUD seeing they are updating it, I'm wondering if it is a label change or formula change.

Interestingly enough, Subaru and Toyota OEM branded oil's have lots of Moly in them...so that MAY tell us something there. That being said, I've had no additional noise or issues when I've run Napa or Valvoline oil which have very little Moly in them. Subaru OEM oil also has tons of Calcium in it which is kinda odd given the many DI Turbo motor's in their lineup but what do I know lol.
