Model Loyalty

We have Frontier and Xterra. 2nd Frontier and 2nd Xterra for our household. So that's close to 25 years with Nissan.
We like the platform and makes for easy maintenance. Same oil and filter, as a bonus my little Fishing Boat with Mercury 25 outboard takes the same oil filter.

I've owned a dozen BMWs since 1983, and at one point I had 4 in the garage. I'm now down to one again, but running costs had nothing to do with it. I'm just completely underwhelmed by the new BMWs. I don't like the awkward Lego/Minecraft exterior design language and I absolutely hate the tacked-on Radio Shack surplus touchscreen with the associated poor interior ergonomics.

BMW was very clear about it in THIS ad.
Which, to me, is cringy to the extreme. Even if the attacked elderly is a BangleButt, and banglebutts deserve everything that hits them.

For what it's worth, they kicked the Domagoj designer guy responsible for the beavertooth grille insanity to Rolls Royce, and there's maybe som hope for some interior design sanity in the future, although I'm not holding my breath.

3 Toyota / Lexus here. Very different models though. One 4 cylinder, one V6, one V8. All my bases are covered.

I remember that ad. It just basically told long-time BMW owners that they were no longer needed or wanted. Pure insanity.

My aunt in 2014. The 2 on the left were TDIs

We’re all Toyota/Lexus here. 2 Priuses, 2 non-Prius hybrids(RXh and Camry) and a Sienna.

It’s not uncommon to see a small fleet of Priuses here in the Bay Area parked in front of people’s houses in the ‘hood. For gig work like Uber and DoorDash, you just can’t beat the economics and reliability(except for the third generation with head gaskets) of a Prius. In Portland, it’s very common to see more than two Subarus parked in a driveway or a parking lot of them.

Although not quite the same thing as the topic in discussion, I have owned 2 different model years/generations of a TOYOTA HARRIER < which by that name is sold in other world markets.
The first was a 1st generation 2001 LEXUS RX300(1999-2003)
The second is a 2nd generation 2023 TOYOTA VENZA(2021-2024)

We are a complete Ford family now. We've owned many different brands. I've had good luck with Ford products in the past. I wouldn't call it loyalty, I would call it practical. We recently traded off a VW. It makes more sense to have a vehicle that doesn't have to travel 60 miles or more for dealer service or major work. It gets expensive loading up a VW, Subaru, or Mazda on a rollback and hauling for 60 miles or more.

I've replied to similar threads over the past years, and feel the same as OP. When I walked my dog I would see 3-4 Toyotas, or Hondas, or BMWs. What I don't think I've seen too often is 3-4 American made cars. I can think of one person, Jimmy, he has a mid 90's Suburban, an early 2010's Suburban, and then with his 43% raise, he got 3 Escalades in the past 4 years. He claims he didn't lose any money in doing so, but I never believe that. Car dealers make money on a trade (a lot), and they make money on the new car.

I think variety is the spice of life. For 15 years, we've had a vehicle from Japan, Germany, and the USA. Our newest vehicle is made in USA (only 37% US and Canada content). Why would I want 3 vehicles made in Japan, Germany, or the USA? At the same time, I've only purchased 4 new cars in my lifetime, and 1 used car over $2,000. So I'm clearly not the most experienced car buyer. But even still, I'd want a variety, not all the same.

I did mention this. As I type, we have 2 na V8's and 1 inline 6 twin turbo (admittedly not great on paper, but in reality has been reliable for 18.5 years). 2 RWD. 1 4WD. It's taken me this long, to have: 0 V6 0 FWD 0 AWD 0 4cyl (never had a 4 cyl since my first car, but several V6 which is an avoid imho, as is FWD and AWD). Can you imagine having 3 of them with these characteristics :ROFLMAO:

Currently have 2 new mazda and 7 previous ones. Haven't really found anything (been tempted) I like better for the price, reliability and driving enjoyment.

We have a fleet of 3 Honda / Acura (Pilot/ILX/RDX) albeit the 2013 - 2015. Not sure I would purchase anything recent automatically. Those all had simple engines / drivelines.

Again it's interesting to get all the same thing. imho it's a comfort zone. I would suspect it's the same with other products. Maybe same ice skates, same pads, same sticks, same hvac vendor, etc. etc. It's a mindset. Me using WIX for 25 years, or Meguiars, why? Just that for me vehicles are such a major purchase, they have to offer more than going from point A to point B. So ours are all different. Different purpose, different countries of mfg, 2 door, 4 door, SUV, manual, automatic. Just that as mentioned it's taken until 2025 to not have the undesirables like FWD or AWD, V6, etc. Some read this and say just who do you think you are saying FWD, AWD, and V6 are undesirable?! I'm nobody, just that for me, they are not good characteristics to have in objects that could cost north of 50k.

p.s. the likelihood of buying the same brand of motor vehicle in the future is slim, I'm not loyal, I'm like a roulette wheel. Every time that wheel goes round, you're bound to cover just a little more ground (it's an opportunity, wasted by getting the same thing).

Whatever is needed. Have run everything from GM, Ford, Cummins shipping crates, Honda, Vulvo, VW, BM, Merc, Nissan, Infiniti, International, Mack, etc, etc.

I am not as much as brand loyalty guy for daily drivers. (All my project cars have been BMW or Honda.) As for daily drivers I avoid certain brands more so than seeking out a certain brand. If it is GM, Stellantis, or made in Korea it's a no go.
