Hi.
Is it ok to run Mobil1 5w30 ESP in 2AZ-FE engine? I know little drop of fuel economy due to 3.5 HTHS. But better wear than ILSAC GF5 5w30?
Cheers
Bob

If you're talking about the low SAPS Formula ESP 5w30, so long as you're using low sulfur gasoline, I would go ahead and use it.

In Australia, the Fuel Quality Standards Act 2000 set a maximum of 150ppm for regular unleaded since 2005 and 50ppm for premium unleaded since 2008.

In the old days it was 500ppm sulphur, so this is better, however I believe to be called "low sulphur" fuel it needs to be 10ppm or less.

Your 500 ppm sulfur limit is Euro II, 150 ppm is Euro III and 50 ppm is Euro IV. Euro IV is low sulfur.

Our gasoline sulfur content is 30 ppm max (aside from Cali), and even at this level people have reported rather quick TBN depletion with low SAPS oils such as M1 ESP. So, my advice for the OP would be to not run a very long OCI if he's going to use this oil. Might want to verify with a UOA.

What they have in most places is Europe is ultra-low sulfur gasoline with 10 ppm max. Supposedly EPA here in the US has mandated the same max level as of 2017, at which point we should be able to run such low SAPS oil at regular OCIs as well.

With that said, I'm not really sure why the OP wants to run this oil in his gasoline engine. There really is no benefit for him, as far as I can see, compared to a full SAPS oil.

Don't forget US market cars run different fuel maps to meet specific emissions. That alone depletes oil at higher rate in comparison with EU (probably).

No idea about Australian market maps, but I would guess it's similar to a European ones. It seems that Euro car manufacturers sell almost unchanged cars down there. For NA cars are usually significantly changed.

Toyota's typically don't have extended oil change intervals.

I'd have no problem using a low SAPS ESP oil in that 2azfe. But, is it cost effective with all the other synth and grade motor oils?

If you plan on extended oil changes intervals, regardless of the oil, you need to UOA with tbn/tan... for verification.

good luck finding this oil at a decent price, at pep boys its like $12 per liter, I bought 10 liters and 2 Mobil 1 filters for about $80 back in March when they had one of their specials. There are other, cheaper low saps oils out their, if that's what you are looking for.

One year 10000kms ok with Mobil1 ESP 5w30? I use premium unleaded petrol. I don't know exact sulfer contain.
