Mobil Super (5000) is "conventional". I believe the next step up is Super HM which they call semi-synthetic. Then there's Mobil Super Synthetic, which is just below regular Mobil 1.

It appears that they've positioned Mobil Super as a synthetic blend. Not sure it really means anything has changed. Definitions are kind of flexible.

There is still quite a bit of margin at that price. At .99 a quart there still will be a bit of profit.

Funny, I remember using Chevron Supreme for years in the 1990's at $0.79 a quart from Target. Back then they were separate from Havoline/Texaco and did zero advertising as well but it was solid oil for the 3k oil changes done back then.

Wasn't that back when Mobil Motor Oil (I remember different names including Drive Clean) was about the same price?

Back when 5W-20 became a Honda/Ford requirement, the first two I saw on store shelves were Motorcraft semi-syn and Chevron Supreme.

Chevron Supreme is still a solid oil with an excellent add pack for 3k to 5k OCI's. I would assume this Mobil Super is as well.
But then, I'm partial to Chevron Supreme, Havoline and Delo products.
Their oils represent great quality at a very reasonable price point.
