Mobil 1 vs the rest

Yeah, my understanding is ST is a Citgo product as of a couple years ago when the contract / supplier was changed...don't know if that's a regional thing or not.

Citgo Mobil

and mostly Warren.....

M1 data from year 2008.

• Valvoline SynPower's 5W-30 wear performance is at least four times better than Mobil 1 5W-30.
• Castrol Edge 5W-30 provides eight times better wear protection than Mobile 1 5W-30.
• Mobil 1 5W-30 does not meet minimum API SM or ILSAC GF-4 specification because of its inferior performance in the Sequence IVA wear test.

Nice cliffhanger! Now tell the rest of the story.

Even if there is an issue, very doubtful it will be caused by the oil you used or extended oil changes and even more impossible to prove.

Went on clearance at my local wally world. Price was superb, but it eventually made it's way back on the shelf at a poor price. (Guessing they cleared out all the old SL stuff? I don't remember...)

Anyways, I can almost always find other syn oils, brand name or otherwise, on sale for cheaper than the ST stuff.

I don't recall the last time it was ever on sale in my area.

Until then, PP, QSUD and Motomaster F1 Syn on what seems like continuous rotational deals grab my sales.

i bought it and it made my existing leaks on my car worse, no more synthetic on older cars for me
also i personally wont buy any supertech (any flavor )again

Worked very well for me the few times I used it. My sister even did a 1 year OCI at probably about 8000 miles with it and seemed fine. I think it is well worth the price or used to be when it was several dollars cheaper than any other synthetic on their shelf.

By me all Supertech is in WPP bottles - including conventional, high mileage and synthetic.

IIRC correctly - Supertech can be made by WPP, Mobil, SOPUS or Citgo (all have different shaped bottles and it varies depending on where you are in the US). I believe this is typical for both conventional and synthetic. Your local Walmart may have a mix of different types (i.e. 5w20 may be in WPP bottles but 5w30 is in Mobil bottles or any other combination).

It is a safe assumption IMHO that all Supertech in the Mobil, SOPUS or Citgo bottles are made by their respective manufacturer however it is UNKNOWN if the Supertech oil in the WPP containers is actually made by WPP along with the container itself or if the oil by some other manufacturer is simply bottled by WPP. However most do believe that in fact Supertech in WPP bottles is indeed made by WPP and WPP has stated they do in fact manufacturer oil for Walmart. However WPP is also a bottler and no one really can be sure it is not QS oil in a WPP container or whomever the lowest bidder is.

The important thing is is that all 5w20, 5w30 and 10w30 Supertech are API SN rated.

I have bought plenty of WPP 5w20 Supertech for older vehicles and have experienced no issues. Supertech is by far the best selling oil in my local Walmart - there is shelf space in the oil section and an entire end aisle stocked full of Supertech oil and it usually looks fairly depleted by the end of a Saturday afternoon.

I bought Mobil 1 ep 15,000 miles of protection.
It was 26 dollars same cost as all the other Mobil 1 products. I plan on running it 10,000 or a year I'm using a Motorcraft filter which ford thinks they can last 10,000 miles. How does this sound to you guys?
Is 10,000 a good interval with this combination? My drive daily is 7 miles 55 mph with a Couple stop lights. And if you use it and have any kind of valvetrain pictures please post them

thank you everyone

Mobil 1 EP has lots of PAO according to their MSDS, so yeah it should be able to hang in there. I'm thinking about using it and top-off oil will be M1 Racing 0w-30 to boost the worn out additives 1/3 of the way and 2/3 of the way thru the long run with that EP.

I wonder whether ST isn't blended to a formula and is the same regardless of what blender makes it?
Walmart certainly moves enough of the stuff to have contracted a consultant who arrived at a cheap but good blend that meets current API specs.
Kind of like Mobil makes TGMO 0W-20, but it's made to Toyota's formula and in no way resembles any M1 0W-20.
Walmart would then shop the blenders for price bottled and delivered to a regional distribution center.
Shipping costs from one blending plant versus another could be the reason that different blenders seem to supply the oil in different regions.

Looking at MSDS, Mobil 1 EP has 60%-70% Group 4 (PAO) in it. Standard and AFE has 30%-
You're not going to have any issues at 10k...in fact you could probably run the regular M1 for 10k but since they are the same price might as well run the EP for extra protection.

My Dad ran regular M1 in his Vibe GT for years on 10k intervals with never an issue.

I have used Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil for several years in a Toyota 3.5 V6 engine and have changed it once a year with no problems. Mobil says that it's good for one year or 15,000 miles, whichever comes first. I'm puzzled as to why some seem to believe that the Mobil oil engineers are incompetent or otherwise not qualified to produce an oil that's guaranteed to last for one year or 15,000 miles. Have there been a lot of engine failures or other evidence that Mobil 1 EP isn't as good as Mobil claims?

I run M1 EP 0W-20 in my Honda Accord (k24a4) and my Toyota Tundra (3UR-FE) both are very quiet and smooth on it.

I wouled use a different filter for a 10K oil change. Fram Tough Guard or Ultra, or a Mobil 1, since you're using their oil.
