Mobil 1 OCI ?

Im using mobil 1 silver top with motorcraft oil filter, im driving every day and get hard some time, how offten do I need to change oils ? thanks

Mfgs recommended oil change interval if under warranty. If not do a used oil analysis to see how the oil is holding up and go from there. What kind of car and how many miles you drive the car per operation cycle and define driving hard.

98 mustang gt v8 5 speed 147k miles, im using 15w/50, im thinking change it every 5k. im mostly drive it hard on the weekent, burn out , racing, and I drove this car every day at hot weather 90+.

I'd check the owners manual and see what they suggest. Unless the filter can go the distance I suggest you don't go over 5K.

3k oil change on mobil 1 is kinda wasted ? im going to send in a sampler after 3k and let see what they say.

Suggest you run it 4-5,then send in the sample. 3 Is a no brainer.

How many miles a year? What's your real fuel economy compared to your potential fuel economy? These are some factors in considering how long to keep an oil in service. If you're using 6k worth of fuel in 3k ..then 3k may not be a waste if it's over a long enough time base.


..but..if I'm burning up tires and fuel for fun, saving oil is not a primary point of economy. Finding an oil that evidences grace under fire would be a decent goal.

8K then sample, then adjust based on report and you will probably find 12K is good.

He has stated it is a... 98 mustang gt v8 5 speed 147k miles

That engine is the 4.6 modular. I ran a Lincoln Mark VIII with the high performance variant of that with M1 at 10k OCI and had great results as proven by UOA. Running 8-10 K mile OCI is fine for this engine.

Use M1 TDT 5w40 @ 6k then test and adjust,it'll hold up!!
