You know, that might mean the OLM wouldn't let you get to 15K. If you are under warranty I wouldn't take it in with the OLM saying the oil change is overdue.

Maybe if you want a bit longer you can get 7200 on this OC and finish the 15K on the second, but it looks like you will overrun the OLM at 9K, and regardless of the brand/type of oil that might invalidate your warranty.

You could probably take it in for the big service sooner than 15K.
What is the 'big service'? I never had it done on my Chevy.

datech,

Yeah I hear ya but the manual say regardless of the mileage to change the oil at 12 months. I'm getting so close to it now that I feel I can't do or get to the 7200 OCI the OLM tells me to do. In either case I'll take it in and see if the dealership will do it or not based on what I have. ARCOGRAPHITE stated I'm still in the breaking in phase but if I remember the manual say I'm gtg at the 4K miles. I'm well past the breaking in period now.

Sportscarguy99,

I'm not an expert but I would think the "extended version" would have a more robust protection package compared to the standard M1. I was thinking about trying it to make sure I don't run out of additives if I can push the synthetic oil past the next 7500 miles to get it more closer to the 15K service. If I can get some good synthetic in the Camaro then I know with confidence it can be pushed a little harder/longer past what I'm comfortably use to (6K) doing. In reality I really trust my OLM and would not hesitate to use it any time. I just want to get the best oil in the crankcase I can afford. Other than Royal Purple. Mobil 1 is my oil to use.

Firstly I've seen blackstone state oil doesn't have an expiry date,so whether its a year or 2 years or whatever the oil can't tell time.
Secondly if you're under warranty follow its requirements to the letter. Don't give the oem any ammo just in case there is a problem. They've got lots of money for lawyers and can drag it out long enough to break you.
That car needs dexos right? So just use a dexos oil. M1 is fine,or any other fluid and change it according to the oil life monitor.
Once you're out of warranty then try extending intervals and get a few used oil analysis done to confirm an appropriate interval.
Don't complicate things, this one is simple.

Durango,

+10 to ARCOgraphite's comments. The M1 EP uses very similar basestocks to the AFE, that is a higher PAO % than "vanilla" M1, but with a higher level of metallic additives.

Early in the OCI, wear is slightly higher due to competition between the Detergent-Dispersal additives (Ca & Mg) and the anti wear EP additives. Later, as the TBN drops and stabilizes, let's say sub 3.0, and stays this way for 5k+ miles, EP starts coming into its own.

It's not better than regular M1 or worse, just that you need to be in excess of 10k miles to utilize the EP oil.

In your case, under warranty, changing by the OLM, M1 is "better", or QSUD, or PP.

In your engine, if it's DI, then fuel dilution, and maintaining adequate viscosity through the OCI (I like 9cst at the end of the OCI in 5w30 specced applications) should be your focus.

Take care,
Gary
