Wait a minute ...my wife puts stuff together just like that!! She just dispences with the fancy riddles.

Try the Marvel Mystery Oil treatment, for the heck of it. See if it has an effect on the ring packs and the valve guides, smoking and all.

Well the oil is quite a bit darker than when new, Mobil 1 is known for cleaning quite a bit as well. Valve seals are fine, no startup smoke ever. Smoke did start going down some I noticed today. I just added a full bottle of the Valvoline Synpower additive, will check back once I know what changes it does to the mileage and smoke (if any). If anything I will have a moly infused smoke show

There will be another dose of ARX in the near future as well (patience Nick patience)

Alright, this Valvoline Synpower is looking to be a must have.

After adding the entire bottle the smoke is about gone again (it did change it from a 20W to 30W I imagine)

BUT MY GAS MILEAGE WENT UP TO 17.7MPG!

Only a one tank test so will see if trend continues. Last 5000 miles or basically 20 tankfuls 16MPG was the norm give or take. Never even dreamed of this, hope it wasn't a one time fluke (mistake)

I also did the same thing to my 440 Mopar. It had 5 quarts of Delo 400. I suctioned out the pan and dropped 3 quarts of 5W20 and a full bottle of this Synpower (figure a quart of the 15W40 was still in the filter and motor)

Gas mileage went up from 10.2 average for last 4 years to 11 first tank. Motor has never been so smooth either. Before you ask I suction the oil on this often as the carb and all the cold starting will dilute the oil quickly.

I am starting to become a moly/boron (moron) addict I think.

Got a road trip to Charleston planned for next week, will see what happens to the highway only mileage.

I don't know how much of the gain in the 4.6 was the Mobil 1 still cleaning the ring packs or the Synpower snake oil, but will be looking to test again next oil change.

5W20

From all we have found 2, 3 and 111, the product of which is 666, THE MARK OF THE BEAST ! EVIL IS THE OIL THAT ONE DOES USE !

Alright, here is the update.

About 4K miles on the Mobil 1 5W20, VSOT, and 10 ounces ARX went about 2K.

Have not added a drop of oil in the last 2K miles. Mileage is about 17.5~18.5 city, no visible smoke either. The mileage gain combined with no more smoking has me pretty happy now, I finally put down the catalogs for the replacement motor.............

Will be dropping this oil and "rinsing" with the Havoline 5W20. Will update if this starts any visible smoking.

The current oil is a very dark amber, not black, but its time for a change in my book.

Maybe one day people will wake up and realize that Ford 4.6 engines do not need 15w40 oil at any time in their lives. If 5w20 or 5w30 synthetic blend and a high quality filter (NO FRAM) are changed at 5000 mile intervals the engine should be good for at least 200,000 miles.
