I use 0w20 M1 year round in my Hyundai Accent. Sure am glad it's in the crankcase with all these polar vortexes hitting the Midwest.

Seconded. It would most definitely be fine all year.

Side note: About using the Fram filters - if you have been doing it without problem for over 20 years, then more power to you. But, I just want to say, Motorcraft's ADBV is in a better position. I'm not sure as to whether all Fram filters have an ADBV or not...?

Good question - I know their Tough Gard specifies that it has one...silicone or not I don't know.

The standard orange box Fram doesn't say one way or another.

Yah, that's what I was wondering. If they don't, then, to be completely honest, running a Fram on a V8, especially on a Ford (because of MC's good ADBV), is not a great idea. But, then again, it's up to the mind of the consumer to make the choice. I wouldn't run a filter that doesn't have an ADBV on my truck (see sig).

I thought they all had one, but the question was, is it silicone or not?

Well, actually, some Frams actually come without ADBVs, for example the PH3675.

I went to see this other thread about it:
https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3136522

From that thread I've taken a few quotes:

An ADBV is still beneficial here, because oil above the filter in the engine oil galleries will push oil backwards through the filter due to head pressure. See below sketch. This shows what the oil will try to do after the engine is turned off and the system is no longer pressurized.

SO true, its hard to imagine why filters without ADBV's exist at all. All for the want of a few pennies, I guess...

Yea just to save a few pennies

also no bypass, thats crazy the one on the ENGINES have been known to FAIL...
heck they even show it on FRAM You tube page..

I'm heading to youtube... gonna see if I can't find what was talked about in the quote.

...or who live where the ambient temps NEVER drop below 80*F, even in winter.

Exactly. I live in Illinois, and though it may not be as cold as some of the the other cold states, it gets below 0*F quite often in the winter.

Who on Earth is Mobile ?

They have a woeful market presence for a company that spends so much...

And I don't see anyone here suggesting 20W-50...but you really shot them down when they turn up...

Phone autocorrect as one types "mob" mobile inserts itself.

Yeah, meant 15w-50, not 20. No reason to run anything lighter!!! Cold won't harm anything!!! Oh and 100F ambient is "hot" better up that weight!!!

Overweight club is hilarious.

hahaha... yup, better find some good ol' 10w-60 to protect in that heat! Shoot, maybe even some SAE 70!

All kidding aside, [some] Bimmers actually do spec 10w-60.

Really solid engines, a ton of them were made, nice low end torque. Simple old school design.

Mobil 1 0w30 seems to be one of the best and traditional products in their lineup right now. The low pour point, -50 C (-58 F) suggests it is heavy on the PAO. I'm surprised it's not even more popular around here.

I got the truck a few years ago. I was drawn to it for the green color, 4wd, aluminum rims, tonneau cover/bed liner, fiberglass skirt front to back, ext cab, 5.8l engine. Bad thing is the stinking rust is setting in!!!

I think it was Allan Moffatt (Ford man all the way) who said that the Windsor was the best Chev small block Ford ever built...referring to staggered ports, front dizzy as improvements over the SBC.

I know there's lots of SBC fans, also a bulletproof design. I think the 5.8 Ford wins on all around truck engine, tows very well, smooth and reliable, can add some power if you want. The SBC wins as a performance platform. Both engines will do a lot of work with relatively small displacement.

I'm also biased, have a boat with a 5.8.
