Hey everyone. Need a little help here. My car takes 5.5 litres of oil and bottles only come in 5 litres. I am currently using Valvoline 15w 40 engine armour and would like to change to Next Gen 15w 40, is it ok to use 5 litres of Next Gen and .5 litres of engine armour? will it have any negative effect? Thanks in Advance

15W doesn't matter worth a [censored] in Sydney, 40 is pretty common, 0W-40 costs you $20/L, and nextgen only comes in 15w40, having been on the market for only a couple of years.

What's the current temp' in Syndey, 12C?
I appreciate more suitable advanced lubricants are expensive in OZ but I've heard a 5w30 dino is relatively cheap or even a 10w30 which is as cheap as a 15w40.
Of course we still don't know the application.

sorry mate i dont think i can use 0w-40 my car is 28 years old, that would leak for sure. Plus i have 130k miles. Engine requires 10w40 or 15w 40 only, must be semi

12c is correct, cheapest oils are 20w50, then 10w40, 15w40 then expensive over $40 per 5 litres

15W-40 used to be spec'd for my BMW and even 20W-50 for my 27 year old Porsche but all European made cars no longer spec' these dino grades, nothing heavier than 0W-XX and 5W-XX oils are now spec'd and have been back spec'd at least three decades.
0W/5W-40 are not necessarily lighter at operating temp's vs 10W/15W-40 oils and therefore I wouldn't automatically assume oil leaks will crop up that weren't already present.

I appreciate the culture with heavier than necessary motor oils in OZ; I'm just providing a technical answer to your assumptions.

yeah we like to use thick oils, down here. Just checked 5w-40 costs $65 for 5 Litres. Any oil under 10w is $60 plus. We also dont have full dino's under 20w 50, only semi synthetics and full synthetics

I use 15w40 XLD in my 4.0L Ford because it's pretty much the cheapest available to meet the spec. The oil cap states to use only "Xw40 or Xw50"

Caterham what would you choose for your 1994 Ford if you can get a jug of 15w40 for about $20. Step up to a 10w40 and you're looking at $35-40, 5w40 $60-80. M1 0w40 $95.
