It has been 1335 KM since my last oil change, 848 miles and my oil level is not close to full.

I did the oil change with castrol syntec 5w30 synthetic. I don't wanan pay the $9/quart for a bottle here in canada. I have an extra quart of mobil 1 5w30 synthetic which I have not opened as it was a 4.4L jug with free bonus 946 mL/ 1quart bottle.

Is it safe to just top of existing syntec in engine with the mobil 1 5w30?

Yes I have an oil consumption issue and 3 bottles of Auto-Rx are apparently on the way.

It probably won't hurt to mix the M1 for couple thousand, but why not just get some more Castrol? (or are you saying Syntec is $9/qt - ouch!!!) So - just get some dino Castrol it'll mix ok.

Is it safe? Sure!

How many miles or Km on the engine? If it's higher mileage, you may want to try a Maxlife or something similar...

high mileage for sure 169 985 KM.

I made a switch to synthetic about 6000KM when i started doing my own oil changes. I stopped getting it done at shops because of frustration from them not letting it drain right.

It use to consume with dino too.

Anyways I do have some castrol gtx 5w30 in the garage? I can mix that with syntec no prob?

What is better mixing mobil 1 synthetic or GTX 5w30 dino.........and yes $9/quart canada is expensive for everything.

I would prefer to mix with the GTX rather than the M1 for personal preference. I feel it is slightly safer to mix a dino and syn esp. from same company than two syns together from different companies.
Not that I buy into the whole additive clash thing to the extent that some do, but M1 definately uses a different additive package than most.

Years ago I topped of the Syntec in my Volvo with some Mobil-1 I had sitting around and happened to get a UOA on it later. The results were stellar. Go ahead and top off with the GTX or Mobil-1, it isn't going to hurt anything.

With your car's age and oil consumption I wouldn't bother with synthetic in the summer. For Canadian winter use a synthetic will always be a good idea just to make starting easier on the car. Valvoline Maxlife regular in the summer and Maxlife Synthetic in the winter would be my choice to minimize oil consumption.

What type of vehicle and mileage? You might be better off just going up in viscosity to control the oil consumption. Mobil 1 makes some good high mileage oils that are just for that purpose.

I'm just waiting for the auto-rx to show up so i can start the
process.
