Pure antifreeze concentrate will freeze at a warmer temperature than a 50% antifreeze/50% water solution. Pure antifreeze concentrate also has less ability to exchange heat than when mixed with water. This can seem contradictory because while the engine is actually operating too hot, the temperature gauge sensor is reporting a contradictorally cooler temperature in error. (Evans coolant is specifically formulated to be used without water, though.) Antifreeze should NEVER be diluted to lower than 40% concentration unless corrosion is the desired ultimate result.
