Why weren't you equally vocal when your state handed out hundreds of millions in tax breaks to Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Honda and others to open plants there? Why not "let the market work"? Or is it better for Alabama if the Detroit Three fold so that the foreign companies -- in your state -- can produce more?

10:1 IF GM, Ford, Chrysler wanted to open a plant in just about any state and came in without the union nitwits they would get the same, if not better breaks.

I agree the pols holier than thou stuff is really stupid and that we should be baling out NOBODY. But he spends his time picking on the R's. Very skewed (look at the source!!)

Lots of silly straw men in this piece. Detroit choked. Face up to that.

Help me out here. Outside of some cultural stereotype "you can't get the southern dog to hunt Yankee style, son (imagine Fred Thompson voice "A Ruskie don't take a dump, son, without a plan") ..just what would make any state ...ANY state reject embracing ANY form of employment in the form of manufacturing ..regardless of if you're UAW or Homer's extended family (where we come from, we're all related)?

Some states just don't want the UAW trailers with hookers and the odds of the company going belly up in 2-3 years aren't worth actual costs by the state.

I don't see how NOT wearing the union label has kept plants open when they're not viable anymore. Haven't a few of the "implants" packed up after taking the incentives and moved on??

I guess if UAW members migrated with the new plant ..that could be an issue.

I can't wait for Honda's in NASCAR ..I guess Toyota is there already. You have to run your 'shine in something viable.

I understand that quite a few of them do exactly that.

Would it matter to you if a NASA booster engineer was 55 and from Detroit ..or do only the Homer's get a welcome at making a living in Texas???

Where the [censored] did that come from?

I was just saying that workers interviewed at the local Arlington auto plant (Ford I think), have been union workers that have moved from other plants be they in FL, NY, GA, or whereever. They like workers in any other industry have moved with where the jobs are.

Oh, and I think there are more Homers' in Detroit than Atlanta.
JMHO.

IF the Union were not involved a company would be free to hire by job qualification.....

Well one would think that the most qualified line worker would be one off a slowed down line in another similar plant....

Nowhere in the realm of malicious, really

It's just when I saw an implication that plants being built without the UAW being present, I wondered what the issue was. I then, while not spelling it out ..but "implying it" said "well the neighborhood will still be intact unless the socialist show up with them. When you said (now expand and kinda embrace the view here ..like the two dear when they were commenting on the crashed car along the road "where you see one, there's usually more") "....s'pect they will" ...I just figured you were commenting along that same theme. You weren't, apparently, but I was just being my annoying self in abrasive humor.

"Homer's" ...as in "home grown resident" ..not our beloved H. Simpson type. The usual placement of an autoplant outside of the UAW is not in the inner city ..it's in the corn belt or wherever the economic climate favors them, hiring younger workers. Makes a lot of sense to do this.

I kinda thought that was what you were implying, and took it with further implication due to your nature that it wasn't that serious. Rather just felt like interjecting my own circumlocution.

Well, I was in part, in a way, while trying to use truth (or some facsimile) to keep the comments relevant at the same time.

Yes, I did picture the Simpson character primarily in the visualization of your retort, briefly thought of the dual meaning in the name, but rejected that as your primary menaing.
Then decided my reply worked either way as well and left it at that.

Julian!!! I've missed your "presence" (that's why my spider sense was tingling

)

..but getting back out main topic (after a fashion) ..one may look at our UAW much like a Chinese sweat shop worker may an American worker ..and we can invert the view as needed. The difference is broader ..but the template is the same. What you're really seeing is our fall from grace measured from an anchor. Now too many are looking up from their down position.

So be it
